Freesia Bordeaux (DDB)

Has anyone heard anything about this kennel? I am considering a puppy from there but it will have to be shipped so I can't check it out myself. Also, costs more than some other places.

What are they charging?

First thing I noticed: only ONE of their listed dogs is listed with his OFA certs on their site and when I run their kennel name through the OFA database only two dogs with their kennel name are listed. OFA lists a fairly signifigant list of health certs to expect for a DDB, so before I'd be willing to buy a pup I'd want a copy of the parents' health tests.

List of tests: Canine Health Information Center: CHIC Information

2nd thing I'm noticing: no Champions or other indications of the dogs being worked in any way. Nor am I seeing who the dogs are registered through. Now they're fairly new to the AKC, so AKC registration may be a bit to ask for, but I'd want to see FSS or UKC registration personally. Again, lack of listing (for both conformation/working info, and registration info) on the site isn't the end of the world, but its a question to ask them.

Still poking around. Freesia's NOT listed as a breeder with the DDBS of America (who ever designed that site needs coding lessons, geez!). Now, I always take that fact with a grain of salt, cause the TM club sucks, but its something to keep in mind too.

Thank you for doing the research. The puppy I'm thinking of buying is $2500, $3000 with shipping. It is also the smallest in the litter, but I'm not sure that makes a difference.

I paid $3000 for Apollo (a TM), not including transport costs.

Is that for a show quality or pet quality pup? Smallest in the litter doesn't nessecarily mean anything unless its WAY runty in comparison.

Note, you'll need to get the input of the DDB folks as to whats "normal" price wise, and if theres anything else you should ask thats specific to the breed. I imagine one will wander through eventually!

Hulk our ddb has champion and his grandpa will be grand championed out by the end of spring. We paid 2,000 for him but did not ship him, we picked him up. Make sure to get copies of both parents ofa certifications, what registry and the registry numbers of parents and grandparents, and have them take video of their facility for you so you can see how they live. If you need anymore info let me know.

Thank you both. I am looking for a pet quality puppy. I have seen prices range from $1500-$3000 for what I'm looking for. I did find an individual with one puppy, only CKC registered. How do you feel about buying from an individual as opposed to a kennel?

I personally have no problem buying from a person vs a kennel, but they still have to meet my requirements for health testing, and conformation/working of the dogs, and the like. Most smaller kennels are run by a single person or family anyway.

I'd not personally pay less than $1500 even for a pet quality pup unless there was a serious physical defect, these giant dogs are expensive to maintain and manage.

WHen you say CKC, do you mean the Continential KC or the Canadian KC. I have no problem with the Canadian KC, but I refuse to buy pups registered soley with the Continential KC. The Cont.KC barely manages as a place of record keeping, there's no conformation shows, your dog becomes a "champion" by being "inspected" by a judge, and its a favorite registry for puppy-millers cause so little checking is done. Mind, AKC registeration doesn't make things ok, but the AKC does actually have rules about whats expected in breeders and will refuse to register pups if it finds a problem (I'll admit they don't look hard for problems).

I don't personally know anything about the DDB, but I would recommend you carefully consider the information Ruth and Wyo are giving you :)

Well, they have at least one pup registered AKC, if you click on the link above, she's owned by a board member, so I don't know why the rest aren't.

For a pet pup registration isn't the end of the world as long as the rest of it works (I wouldn't buy a CKC registered pup, but lets be honest, you're not going to show, so.....), but I'd want to see the results of the health testing before I put any money down. Absolutely bare minimum pet pup or not. And I'd really want to know what showing/conformation work they've done with the dogs or if the dogs are trained for other skills or the like, but yah. Health testing.....

Personally I'd pass on a pup from them....but that's just me. IMO it's getting harder and harder to find good, quality DDBs in the US.

I'm also super picky and know what I want and like. If I get another DDB it will most likely be another European pup.
