I have another thread on the general discussion section about our search for our next family dog. The bullmastiff is one of our top choices. I've contacted vets and groomers in our area and have read alot of information regarding the breed. They seem like a perfect fit, but I would really like owner/breeder input just to be sure. We do have a toddler and we are looking for indoor. I am considering ourselves first time owners because we typically stick with medium to smaller dogs, this will be our first large breed. I was curious about their trainability and ease of ownership. I don't want a dog that I have to continually worry about. I know obedience training will go far with them and we definately plan on obedience training. I would love anyone's input on this. I want to get a good fit for our family and future pet. This will really be our first dog purchase, as most of our pets have been strays.

Thank you!

I am on my first BM and I responded to your other post. You won't like the cost of a puppy if you are getting strays in the past.
I know of a few breeders from their websites that I would buy from if I were getting another dog, but they are in Missouri, Texas, Tennesse and Arkansas. Don't know where you are or if that helps.

We are prepared for the purchase price. I know that a good dog, from a good breeder, will cost us some money. You just can't really put a price on what a dog gives you back though. I've found a few breeders in Mississippi and Louisiana. We are from Mississippi. Texas, Arkansas and Tennessee wouldn't be out of the question for us depending on the location. I know most breeders have long wait lists for their pups. For example, if we are 3 years out...we may want to go ahead and get on the list. The strays typically just find us. For whatever reason, special needs animals always make their way to us.

Thank you for your response on my other thread. All the information that I have been provided is so helpful.

I'm a first time bullmastiff owner. My girl is 2 years old. They will chew as pups. Not your typical puppy teething. Things will be destroyed. I also had a toddler at the time. They are absolutely awesome with kids. But you must be there to supervise. Not sometimes....all the time. I can't tell you how many times the pup wanted to play with my kids only to send them toppling over or scratched.

Lots of food issues at first until I realized she can't have any chicken at all.

Got her from an amazing breeder here in Canada so her vet bills thus far have been minimal.

You will love the breed and this forum. Any questions ask here.

I have seen pups at 7 months old from this breeder and they are on the way to being AKC Champs.

I just like his dogs, drooled over them before I got mine.

This is where I got mine from and she is changing her line of dogs, going a little bigger. I have a good pup with no medical issues and she has some pretty dogs. My dog is on the small side of the standard, barely 25 inches at withers and 115 lbs at 14 months.

She has a big brindle male that I really like and I have heard good things about her as a breeder.

Don't know much about this one, seems like a hobby breeder and I think her dogs are a little small. I would talk to her if I were thinking about getting a pup.

I am not trying to sell pups for these breeders, these are just the ones I know about around Arkansas. Good luck in your search.

I can attest to your first recommendation with Xtreme. Nicole breeds beautiful pups and we purchased a male red/fawn from her in June.

He's now 4 months old, absolutely stunning, and most importantly just an extremely well behaved and perfectly tempered pup. I had the opportunity to meet most of her line and they are amazing dogs. She is a wonderful, and accessible breeder as well, both before the purchase, and after which is just as important in my view.

Good luck with your hunt and welcome to the BM family!
