Filas same sex dog aggression

Fila people,

Are same sex dog aggression common in this breed? The Fila breed has grown on me, and while I still have my interest in the BK, the Fila is not far behind. However if I already have a male in the household would this cause problems? Those no reason why I can't have a female its just I prefer males.

Thanks Ace,

I've been told males would fight for dominance females till death, no matter which breed. While I have not experienced such first hand I have witnessed such experience with my good friend and other dog owners. Just anothe reason I prefer males less drama, lol.

for the most part my females have gotten along,as have the males.but, when the girls have gotten in to it,it's horrible!and, I do not doubt for a minute if I had not been there one would have killed the other.had 2 males get into it,while it was bad we were able to grab ears and get them apart.but, 95% of the time they are fine.

I know Kona makes it a point to be the top bitch. She will make duke lay his ass down if she wants him layed down. ahahaha

Ok so say if I had two males in the house hold already could I add a Fila male with no problems? Or would I be best off with a female?

From my experience with dogs in gen it jut depends on their personalities. Duke is natrualy submissive. Budda and Kona are natrualy dominate. Budda and Kona would have really hurt each other. But budda and duke or kona and duke work. Females are bitch's by birth right. ahahahahaha. So does stone need to be top dog? Or does he just go with the flow like duke? We know AB ha a male and female fila as do many others. Some have multiple males or multiple females. If everyone wants to run the show there will be problems. If one dog dont mind going out the door second and coming in second I dont think it would matter at all. The problem with alpha dogs is they cant be put in their place. They have to fight for that spot everytime. Thats where the issues are I think

That make sense....just like people. Stone is a pure a$$ in every sense of the word. Just wondering if Filas were dog aggressive type dogs. With the BK who are dog aggressive I'd expect to have problem as they are also a fighting breed.

Budda nor Kona care much for other dogs. Budda has put many dogs on their ass for trying to play with him. But he would not go after them. Kona seems to want to go after bout any animal she see's. What she would do I dont know. But from the stray cat she caught, I would say she wants to kill them. Neither Budda nor Kona mess with the dogs they were raised with. Budda actualy gave slim mucho respect and protected him as we had slim first. Slims our mini wiener dog. And as much of a bully as kona is with the dogs, she dont hurt them. Just throws her weight around and screams in their faces. ahahaha

when I had a lot of Dogos,I had 2 female Filas ,female Dogo and 4 male Dogos.I seriously never had a problem and I can only attribute that to my Alpha female Fila Icca.she was the top bitch and let everyone know it.those poor boys would creep past her if she was on the bed or on the couch.I wished I had taped it,she would do a low growl as they went by and most times never even opened her eyes!

Pffftt, I could just picture that in my mind  Those poor boys. And good lord all those dogs, 4 would possibly be my limit, though I would love more.

That's good to know. I don't care how my dogs react to "outside" dogs but within the pack, I'd like them to co-exist. That doesn't mean liking one another. Poor Thor tolerated a lot of BS from Stone, though he's makes noises every so often. You make poor Kona sounds like a witch in every since of the word. Leave that girl alone.

Re: Filas same sex aggression

Filas by nature are not dog aggresive but there are rare exceptions to that. However if you get a Alpha male he will be dominant and that can be mistaken for dog aggression. If you get an Alpha female especially a black or dark brindle one you got yourself a bitch on wheels.

Believe it or not there are some differences in personality and temp with different colors. They are not in every puppy but there are certainly trends so to speak.

you are taking a chance basically - how do the other 2 males get along , how are they with other dogs & puppies ? A female would likely be the best choice - but - you could end up with problems between the 2 males if she is intact.

I think March is officially fila month lol! Filas fascinate me to no end. The devotion that the owners talk about is amazing.

I have not noticed nor have I even heard of color being a factor in character or temp when it comes to dogs. I know alot of old tyme pit bull guys say that the brindles have "more fire" and some old farmers told me that brindle filas have harder temp.... those same farmers have said that rats turn into bats when they mature so your gonna have to take all that nonsense with a grain of salt. as history shows there have been way more fawn grch APBTs than any other color and most temp champions are fawn in CAFIB as well... that being said my brindle bitch (she is a light brindle) is by far the most dominant dog I have ever seen or heard of. She is completly fine with any dog she has ever met as long as that dog does not show the slightest amount of dominance... like fila 4 me stated other dogs tip toe past her practically sliding on the floor, head facing other way with eyes shut just to appease her.. she has made other dogs in the street literally pee themselves by growling at them... A friend brung over his fila pup (about 7 mths old) and we put him out in the yard with her... they played like pups the whole time, with adults it is same thing male or female. The females tend to be more dominant in this breed however this is not agression and the other dogs usually follow them immediatly. I would recommend a female in your situation rather than a male as males will be quicker to snap at another male than a female. females are smaller and therefore more manageable than an adult male which would be unmovable... they mature faster and lear alot quicker than males do (while pups). I do not recommend males to first timers but everyone has there preference.
