Fila breed make up...

hey guys, I've been pondering this for a while... It is widely accepted that the fila Brasileiro breed make up is that of the OEM, OEBD and bloodhounds and not that it makes any difference but I have been looking at other breeds like the Spanish mastiff instead of the OEM and that Brazilian Bulldog thing (but then it really is just another bulldog cross). Anyways i have been focused mainly on the Spanish mastiff as it seems to make more sense geographically, their looks have some very close similarities and their job had some similarities as well... Anyways, I was up and thought about it again and threw it out there for discussion.

Does make sense, the look is more similar.
And the location and history would fit that.
Just a question, why wasn't the Spanish Mastiff originally thought to be part of the Fila's make up?

Don't know. Maybe when someone says mastiffs most people think em and that's why. Hell the sm had similar earset, similar head shape, similar body type...if it were me I would've thought sm not em.

I do not think that it went into making the fila but possible that the fila went into the making of the spanish mastiff. If it went into the fila then i think we would see in old old pics of filas with longer coats but that is not the case. Even if it went into the make up and the short coats were bred , the longer coat would eventualy "pop up" down the line which i have yet to see in my 20 years in filas.

well I havent seen a long coat like the spanish mastiff has but I have seen some longer haired filas and they dont look right, lol. Also, not really. you might not see those traits again... think of the bulldog, if that was the case there would be numerous filas with torted tails etc.

Not that I know that much about Fila's but it seems to me that the SM predates the Fila, so using the Fila in the creation of the SM seems a bit far fetched. Again I really know nothing about these breeds, but can see similarities and given locations and history it seems plausible to me
