Fencing Options

Hi All,
This is my first post on these forums; I've been researching Fila's for awhile and so exciting to have found these forums. I live in Costa Rica and have reserved a Fila puppy that I will pick up in January.
My question is what type of fencing do you recommend? My hardware store is limited on types and what I have found that best suites me is galvanized "chicken wire." I plan to have chickens so need something that will keep in the dogs as well as the chickens. The other option is a fence that is used mainly for horses and cows, with large squares. I bought that at first but once I got it home realized that it wouldn't contain chickens.
I suppose my main question is; do your Fila's press against the fence when someone passes, or do they mainly bark at the edge of the fence? The chicken wire will definitely not contain a Fila if he tries to push against it, but it will be 2 meters/over 6 feet so he can probably not jump out and it will provide a good visual barrier. Eventually plants will also be grown around it. The posts will be made of concrete; so there will be a good foundation for the wire. Do you think that would be enough for a Fila, or should I get the large squares and work something else out for the chickens?
Thanks!

I don't have a Fila, but I can tell you I wouldn't trust chicken wire to contain a large dog. My three dogs (a cane corso, a pit bull, and a dane/boxer mix) do sometimes jump against/put pressure on the fence when they're particularly agitated, and I can't imagine chicken wire holding up. So I would go with whatever your sturdiest option is. If the holes are too large, you could always line the sturdier material with the chicken wire for your chickens.

I use a 6' galvanized chain link fence with intermediate poles every 5' and all poles sunk 2' in concrete. Bottoms of the fence are secured withrailroad ties. May be some overkill, but I don't want them getting out. I don't think chicken wire will work so good. Is I possible that your chicken wire equates to our chain link? Do you have pics of the material?

you can always get 2X4s and make your own stockade fence... how tall Is the horse fencing? Im sure It Is
wood so you can cover all the holes with the chicken wire stapled into the horse fence. the fence really should be 6' high though.

If it is the cattle wire panels that they sell , those can be made into pretty sturdy fences although I dont think they are very tall and filas can be very agile. You can always use chicken wire on the cattle panels to keep the chickens inside the fence . I have seen some nice fences made with the cattle and pig panels.

If the horse fencing is heavy gauged metal panels that are 5ft they can be used however, I would not use the metal rods that are typically used for this type of fencing. I would consider using wood boards and setting them in concrete. You can then use the chicken wire to cover the bottom of the horse panels so as a puppy it cannot get out. As it grows it won't be able to fit thru those holes anyway.

chicken wire is often used in Brasil by Fila owners and breeders...as long as you have solid posts and keep them from going under it you're fine. I use field fencing and it works fine too.
