Feeding portion

I have been feeding my pup a mix portion of puppy food and adult food, slowly working in more adult food. She is now on just adult food and I'm wondering what I should be doing for portions. Juno is 13 weeks, roughly 35-40 lbs and eats between 4 and 5 cups a day. The adult food recommendations are far lower than that for her weight but the puppy food recommendations are a little higher. I'll throw in a picture too cause she is just so darn cute!

I would recommend feeding an all life stages type of food, it gives indications on the amount you need to feed and is formulated to suit the nutritional needs of a growing pup. If I remember correctly from when my dog was that age, I was feeding Acana Pacifica and, according to the bag, he was supposed to get twice the amount an adult dog, at the same weight, would get. I don't really know if it applies to other foods and it didn't really work for us. Best thing to do is to start with a smaller portion and go up if the pup is too skinny.

I always use an all stages food for my large pups. I start with the suggested amount on the bag and adjust up or down from there based on body condition. All stages foods usually have a different chart for pups and adults.

Gratuitous cute puppy pics are always appreciated!

Thanks, the 4-5 cups seems to be working for her for now. She's a good weight and so far when she's full she will just walk away and leave whatever's left in there. Her growth has been between 3-5 lbs a week since 6 weeks old which from everything I have read is normal. I have a great Dane but I got her as a rescue when she was 5 so I have never seen the growth of a large breed puppy. It's amazing how much she grows from week to week!

If the 4-5 cups is working, and she's self-regulating (leaving some in the bowl)... stick with that and keep an eye on her body condition. You should be able to tell if she starts putting on padding, or if the ribs get TOO easy to see. You want her to stay really lean during the growing years in particular, to keep bones and joints growing well together. Denna was a good self-regulator on kibble... now that we feed raw we have to control her portions. :p

Denna put on about 0.5 lb/day... so right about where you are, too.

I do love that cute belly!! Looking forward to lots more pictures of that one. :)

As a dog owner I think feeding a dog with food that has all the supplements and nutrients that are essential for the dog's health and proper growth is very important. The diet of a 13 week pup and diet of an adult dog is very different. Feeding a pup with adult food is not that good idea. You can go for dog food suppliers if you wish to. As dog food suppliers know the correct amount of supplements and nutrients to be given to a pup. You can even check this out for more information.

Cute little girl.

My Charlie, is six months old (yesterday).
He eats Acana Large Breed Puppy, and he gets between 4-5 cups per day, depending on whether he looks too thin or too chubby.
