Feed Question

Ok...when we first got Elvis, he was being fed with several other dogs and that owner was feeding Ol' Roy ( I almost died when I found out). Anyway to make a long story short, we have changed his feed to Beneful and what I am noticing is that he seems to not be satisfied at all. Overall, he looks great and he is eating but in reality, I just don't think there is enough nutrients and I am concerned about all of the bi-products that come in so many brands of commercial dog food. I am also wondering if the feed could be behind the inconsistent poop. Meaning if he eats more of it, then the poop is loose, if he eats less, then it seems to be of normal consistency. Also, if it is a contributing factor the strong doggie odor that comes out, especially after having been exercised. The vet says he is in great condition but I definitely need some advice. I am looking at Blue Buffalo for him and I was wanting to get suggestions or even pros or cons to the feed or what would be even better for him. Thanks for any suggestions that anyone might have to offer. I am pretty good at getting into the head and behavior traits and handling accordingly....I am not that good at the overall nutrition thing though.

Run far away from the beneful! If you want blue buffalo go with the wilderness duck or salmon. Beneful has been killing dogs.

So in regards to looking at changing his feed what should I be looking for as in "not that, but that is good?" Thanks!

How old is he again? Most mastiffs do well on a grain free, chicken free all life stages or adult food with proper levels of calcium and ratio of calcium to phosphorus.

Until he's 2 you're going to want to be very mindful of the calcium and ratio of calcium to phosphorus as that's what controls growth. Too much, he'll grow too fast, too little he won't grow fast enough.

I have an EM that is 1, what is the ratio I should be looking for?
