Eye gunk any ideas?

My non mastiff has developed a bad case of eye discharge I am taking him to the vet as today is day 2 but does anybody have any ideas as to what may be causing it?

No scratch, I thought the cat may have got him. Based on the exam and lack of other symptoms it is likely a minor bacterial infection.
On a positive note the puppy now has all of his vaccines.

As long as I can get the ointment into his eye. He hates any sort of restraint but oddly won't sit still and let me put something in his eye.

Thor gets some NASTY gunk in his eyes its worse in the morning. Its allergies with him I just wipe his eyes with baby wipes and he's fine.

Jiggers can get that some mornings too but this was a steady production for two days straight and he was starting to blink that eye more than the other.

Kona gets it to from time to time. They say dogs with droopy eyes have it bad being the basicly have buckets under their eyes to collect dust and dirt

Bullmastiffs have a problem called entropion. The lid, usually the lower, rolls in on the eye. So the lashes rub on the eye all the time. Pretty nasty. We're always watching these guys for it. Their eyes water a lot, but they play in tall guinea grass & occasionally get dust & dirt in their eyes.
