Ok people. Just got back from the vet. I feel terrible. The second fecal found coccidia. I don't know why they didn't find it just a week ago. I got two meds. One for diarrhea and one to to get rid of the coccidia. He still gfained 5lbs some last week.

Glad you took him in! Ciccidia can "get ugly" if not treated. Don't forget to have a fecal check when he is done with his meds and then again after a month,

They gave me 3 days of ponazuril and iams prostora. Last night we had our first poo free night. He made it the entire night! His poor are way more firm. Im afraid he will get reinvented. I've been cleaning everything with bleach and water.
if the med works that's awesome , we'd always get albon and keep them on it for 2-3 weeks ........... i believe you'd be better off using an ammonia based disinfectant ..........
I read up on the treatments for this and it said this medication is the only one that kills the parasite. The others work by disrupting the lifecycle so they can't breed and die out.
that's why we had to give it for so long . it would reduce the amount of coccidia so the dog could build an immunity to them ...... i think immunity is the only way for a dog not to get sick from it , as i think it's pretty much everywhere ........ i will remember that meds name for next time , it sounds good to me , what was the cost ?
The 3 day course was 15$. I saw a change almost immediately. The meds for the diarrhea were most expensive. 40$ for 5 day supply. I read up it too. Seems like just a probiotic.
what you used to treat the coccidia is very different than anything i've used before , but you may want to ask your vet if they think it would be best to postpone the vaccinations ...... your pup needs to build an immunity to the coccidia . i know vaccinations do initially suppress the immune response and then it gradually recovers over a 10-14 day period ........

My Cane Corso has been on it since the beginning . Nice firm stools, and her coat looks amazing, tons of sheen but not greasy. You can get it online here Taste of the Wild Pacific Stream Puppy Formula Dry Dog Food, 30-lb bag , or at any local pet supplies plus (if they have them in your area). A little pricey but completely worth it over Iams or Purina or god forbid Ol' Roy (walmarts' terrible name brand food....gulp). Best of luck to you and the pup.
Hi all. My roomie purchase a puppy Saturday. He forgot to ask what food they were feeding and just went out and bought Authority large breed puppy. Graham has had had diarrhea since the second day. Im worried cause he seems to be losing weight. He's already been to the vet and got a clean bill of health. Suggestions? The seller is not responding to texts.
had this issue with our pup. Lassie brand kibble and pumpkin , YES pumpkin helps with loose stool..... The Lassie brand kibble lamb and rice are so bland they settled her system and pulled her through.
