Ever thought about your dog harming you?

When she was about 7 months, one of the pups took what was a valuable "toy" to her pen. She was not giving it up, growled and snapped. It was the last time that girl challenged me in that way. I do not put up with crap from my big dawgs. When I was trying to teach all three big girls to walk together "little pup" got scared and went behind me, big pup and Rott continued forward lol. Back flip over the leashes with a bunch of face licks while down on the side of the road. Needless to say, we had some serious work to do. It's better now that they are a bit older. :p

Thanks to the OP for starting this thread. Very informative. I know I'm late to the party, but since I've gotten my CC all kinds of mysterious bruises and scratches have appeared all over my body. So far I've had my feet stepped on numerous times, been knocked down on my ass a few, also I've been “punched†with his head in the nose once and my eyes teared up, it hurt so bad I though he broke it and it would bleed… thankfully not; and a couple of weeks ago I sustained a broken middle finger… Until I've read this thread I thought that I was the only one having such luck, lol, and perhaps that I was not being careful enough, and since I'm new to mastiffs I thought that I just didn't know how to handle a 110+ lb dog properly… but I guess physical injuries are a part of owning a large, powerful breed. In spite of it all, I love having Luther around and wouldn't trade him for anything smaller. Thanks everybody who has contributed to this thread. Great read. Cheers!

I have had my share of bumps and bruises of course but I think the worst was when I was determined a dog wasn't going to just rush into the house but SIT first. World's worst game of chicken,lol...I blocked the doorway and he literally crashed into me. I was still standing though I don't know how!! However, he never did it again....
I don't really think about a dog harming me though I realize it could happen.

Intentionally? Never.
Accidentally? All the time.

One time our room mate was sitting on the floor hanging out with Kujo and he asked for a "high five"... well Kujo gave him a high five all right, in the face. He had a black eye for a couple days lol.

Love this post

When hex was a younger he used to run towards me, full pelt and somehow every time clip the back of my knee right at the point which would give way ..I lost count of the times I ended up on my knees !
I get head butted and he lays on my chest ...he lays on me however he fits ..and I can actually feel my body parts going numb. Sometime when he doesn't want to get up and he's had me pinned for a cuddle in an awkward position that I couldn't free myself from, I've had to call my children to help ..one time when we'd been arguing, i had to call them ..they just looked at him on top of me ...laughed and walked away muttering something about karma ! Lol ..wouldn't change being bumped n bashes for the world ! :)

I constantly walk with a limp from a semi permanent bruise on the top of my right foot. No idea why that one, or why it happens so often xD
The back of my right upper arm is currently black and blue from a flirt pole incident gone awry, and a VERY agile hound flying through the air. His open mouth caught my arm as opposed to the side of my face at least!

Guys, watch the tails. They can rack you often enough and hard enough that when you go to your physician they will ask if you've been having rough sex. They can cause permanent damage.

Wow, sounds just like my CC. When he plays, he plays hard, loves to jump high and goes flying through the air too. And somehow I end up black and blue... lol. This is partially why I stopped playing with him like this, my arms and legs are covered in bruises and scratches, I'm embarrass to wear shorts and it's summer time. :( I know, more of my problem, not really his. Now I try to tire him out mentally by doing training drills, and having him look for hidden treats, etc. Of course I still walk him, and run him daily to drain his energy, I just limit our physical contact games, lol. He's so incredibly powerful, and I think he is starting to realize it, or at least I hope he would. ;)

One day Ruger was sleeping on the living room floor, I went to kiss him on the head, I startled him and he lifted his head up fast enough to give me a bloody mouth and a fat lip. All I could do is laugh.

Our dog Chance really enjoyed swimming, until the day and the moment he didn't.

That moment happened when we were both paddling in deep water in a lake.
,
Chance first became a non-swimmer, and then decided I was the perfect solution for a hapless drowning dog, seemingly thinking he could climb on me and then somehow remain out of the water.

We ultimately got back to a shallower area, where I could start wading and boost him out.

He seemed fine once on dry land, we never identified why his attitude suddenly changed.

We quickly got him in for a nail trimming when we returned home.

There has to be something wrong with us.
If anyone reads this that doesn't own a Mastiff will surely be shaking their heads and wondering......WHY? Lol

Nothing major here YET!
My husband gets the brunt of everything. I have scratches, bruises and sometime a headache from the headbutts. My husband got taken out by Lincs back leg. 2 weeks later his calf still hurts.
One thing I am getting use to is the spin. Linc runs at me, I spin to avoid him. I should have been a ballerina, pretty darn good at it now

I think after reading all of this thread ... hey I had to start at the beginning(so many that was almost me) I am glad I only have a mastiff Mix that is 96 or so lbs LOL. Sadly the 2 60-70 lb labs have taken out knees a few times running and chasing each other and clipping me .... So far other than him standing / laying on my feet or me no trips to the Dr. But tbh I can't wait till I can get either an EM ( my choice) or DDB (hubbies and after seeing some of the cuteness spill out might have to give in to DDB) of my own. The personalities of the Mastiffs just makes me want one so bad but I have to wait a few years to make sure we are ready.

Angus the mastiff mix has run into the backs of my knees a couple of times and taken me out. Cache, my APBT, has done the same. They've both also run into the front of me causing me to fall backwards.

Other than that, it's just been scratches, bruises and the occasional paw punch in the eye, but it's never caused a black eye.

Oh, and there was a time when Angus was a pup where he was going through this phase of being obsessed with sneaking up behind me and nipping me in the butt.

The very worst was getting head butt in the nose by a pit bull lab mix that I was fostering for a month. It fractured my nose and deviated my septum. That was not fun.

Never had ever. This is my first time on this site; logged on as need advice and help. Had my english mastiff from 8 wks old, never had major issues; over bitter and hard to discipline in terms of biting in excitement and it hurt the kids (aged 6, 8, 9); put it down to being a puppy; and he's come very good now with structure and my husband is top dog and the dog knows this. Today, my 8 year old son told me that when he patted our dog he was growled up. I was absolutely shocked as this has never been his nature. My son said mum he keeps doing it its strange; ill show you; my son patted him and my 6 months old male english mastiff growled, then snarled and raised showed his teeth and before I could believe it he went for my son grabbing his arm and there is damage. I put my dog out. I then proceeded to growl at him and dominate him; after my son was cleaned up I took my son with me and we both growled at him and my dog lay down. I felt this my only instinct to do immediately to show him we are top dog and he crossed the line. He's been locked out all day and I am still curious what my next step is. i feel its a one-off; but I don't want to be a fool and want to proceed the correct way possible. Any advise and help please. Thankyou.,

My 19yr old daughter wants to add not a physical injury but a mental scar story
So I was relaxing on the floor in the livingroom one day, and I wanted to cuddle with Lincoln, so I told him to sit...he wasnt sitting anywhere near my face but he decided he would come up and sit DIRECTLY on my face, and im not talking the side sit that mastiffs do...no...it was the whole package, im talkin balls, dinky, and butthole..I screamed so loud, and you all know what its like to try and push a mastiff off, and my lovely mother was no help at all because she was on the floor laughing so hard...ill never forget that
Not to mention I had just spained my ankle the day before so my movements where slow

Titan actually fractured my index finger a few weeks ago...I put his leash on him to take him out before his vet appt and it wasn't sitting right on his neck so i went to adjust it by pulling the O-ring around to the side...well i actually put my finger through the lock-jaw clamp on the leash...he saw my mom and Corelina walking out the door and decided to bolt after them and there is about a 1/3 of an inch gap that the clamp swivels through...well it tried to swivel with my finger in it!!! I finally got him stopped after about 15ft, but it was too late.  I took him to the vet and the next morning took myself to the Dr!! LOL I think it was more my fault for not paying attention when i grabbed his collar...but he could have stopped a little sooner!! LOL

The first time I went swimming with my English Mastiff I nearly lost my Left Nipple . I wanted to get close to him for a picture of us swimming for my wife , and he scratched me so hard on my chest that his paw all most removed my nipple . I am a guy and they are useless anyway . Now I do not let him closer than 10feet when I swim with him .
