English Mastiffs and laser pointers

I went to a Flea Market and they had Laser Pointers two for $100. I thought the kids would have fun with a 50 cent toy . To my surprise , they had the dog running around the back yard trying to catch the red dot . They tired the dog out and all they had to do was move their hand about two inches . THE BEST 50 CENTS I HAVE EVER SPENT . Have anyone else try this ?

I haven't tried one with my guy, but I've definitely seen people use them with dogs and cats.

At first I was like, $100 for two pointers, holy crap those are expensive.

Can I just add a little word of warning here guys....a friend of mine's boyfriend has a spaniel that stayed with his mate while he was away working...this guy had a laser pointer and played with the dog with it, at the time it was great fun...or so they thought. The poor dog now has an OCD where she cant stop staring at the floor or stands and stares at the walls looking for the dot. It may sound funny but it is heart breaking to see, she is completely fixated with shadows as well because of this, it has completely messed with her mind. Now Im not saying that will happen to you but just a word of warning, it could.

Cruiser loves chasing that darn red dot! Do make sure you don't aim it in the eyes when you play. We play with it occassionally but not too often.

Had a few people warn of that, so she's not the only dog, but I have to say I've never experienced it. Heck, I don't know how I'd wear Arty out if I didn't have a lazer pointer! Even Apollo will chase it occasionally, which is REALLY funny to watch.

My nephew has a beagle that is OCD with shadows and reflections, I think she is just wired different, they don't even use a laser pointer.

I'm not a fan of them. I thought it was cute and fun.........but I could see it was a BAD slippery slope and had to throw it out.

Ranger will still get 100% completely focused and "in the zone" whenever he sees a little red light. He will knock over kids, step on people and run into the road to chase that thing. I can't say that it ruined him and made him OCD, but it could have.

Whenever my kids want to play with flashlights I have to get a handle on the dog first and get him in a down stay or leashed.

I would pay attention to your dog and make sure he doesn't start to chase everything shiny and bright, even reflections.
