EM at the park

Took my 6mth old DDB to a new dog park today. In the distance I could see a guy walking along with what looked like a pony beside him. Turned out it was a 2.5 yr old EM. it is the 1st time I have seen a Fully grown male in person.......what a beast. The owner said that he was 209 pounds and also had made a ramp at the back of his station wagon so the dog could get in and out easily.

He made Lulu look like a toy dog and was so gentle it was amazing

Funny! I love hearing someone unfamiliar with my breed describe a meeting with an adult for the first time! Buddy topped the scales at 225lbs at 4 yrs old and people were constantly commenting that he was gigantic but to me he still looked like my little baby and I guess because I saw him every day to me he was not very large. Cruiser is 13 months and right now is at 185lbs and people are again making those same comments and I still don't see it the way they do, to me he is still small!

We recently were adopted by a stray, a tree walking coonhound that weighs about 60lbs. He is the smallest dog I have ever owned and I am not sure how to treat this tiny boy but he has been a real pleasure to have in our family. My vet laughed at me when I said I did not know how to handle a little dog and died of laughter when she said he wasn't tiny, my eyesight was "Mastiff" trained!

+1 and my first EM is still growing so I only have the memories from seeing his parents.

HAHA. I will also say that rarely do I ever see a full grown male out and about. I get comments all the time about how big my Venti is and he's only 11 months old!! My breeder trains with us and sometimes he will bring Venti's uncle in who's about 215 lbs and I'm still amazed how huge they get. :D At the dog shows you get to see some real monsters too!

I see one every day! :)

I can't walk Loki any place with out someone stopping there car or running out of there house to ask the big 3.... How much does he weight? How much does he eat? Do you have a saddle for him? They're off on all 3 every time too, No he's not 100 lbs, he's 210 lbs last weigh in and he's still filling out. No he doesn't eat a lot, my lab eats a lot more and she's less than half his size *points to her*. And of course I don't have a saddle. LOL As a side note... I know all my neighbors. They don't remember my name but they remember Loki. The kids call him "the tiger" after one thought he was a tiger and the parents thought it was funny to say he was so now all the kids think he is a tiger. He's brindle btw. Our last vet visit for just booster shots & heart worm, lasted over 2 hours cuz everyone had to take pictures of him and stuff. He loves going to the vet at least.

Funny that you get used to a 210+ lb dog. To me all the other dogs just seem so small now. You sure do meet a lot of people with one though.

I think those of us with big dogs should take the time to entertain and talk to people that show a keen interest in the large dogs as hopefully they will spread the word that large dogs are child eating monsters. We talk Lulu to cafes all the time and people love coming up to pat her and give cuddles. They always seem amazed how gentle she is and keen to give some love back.....mean while the little Argo lap dog a few tables down is going nuts, backing and being aggressive, yet people turn a blind eye as they are small and furry. I love chatting to people and educating them and kids seem to love the big dogs
