Dogs removed during Danville raid going to rescue groups

DANVILLE, Ky. (AP) - A group of dogs taken during a police raid of a Danville home are being transferred to animal rescue organizations.

In the next two weeks, ten Presa Canarios, some over 100 pounds, will be spayed and neutered and then taken to a dog rescue agency in Topeka, Kansas. A husky rescued during the raid is going to a man in Cincinnati.

The Advocate-Messenger in Danville reports the dog's owner, Chris Pope, agreed to forfeit the dogs as part of a guilty plea to charges of failing to keep them in humane conditions.

The dogs have been held at the shelter since July 29, when they were confiscated by police during a raid. Pope is serving a two-and-a-half year prison sentence for trafficking in Oxycontin in Fayette County.
