Dogs eating grass

hi guys, I have Bella and Sunny on raw diet, chicken and beef.
Bella eats grass daily....is this because their not getting enough greens? The food I pick up has very little veggies in it.

Bailey seeks grass every time that she goes out, and she expects me to help find the really "good" grass for her. Not just any grass will do, crab grass is a no-go, but there is one type of "rough" grass...it is rough to the touch, but isn't serrated or anything like that. It tends to grow inside other bushes and amid the lillies, etc., and the pieces are very long, very green and Bailey LOVES THEM. She adores this particular variety and will eat it until there isn't a sprig left anywhere. And if I offer the wrong type...Well, nose up, and a refusal. It has to be that particular one. She never throws up, she just snacks down and goes wandering along the hedges and fences looking for more.

Now, I've always wondered about the texture, and I have to admit the rough nature of the grass made me think that it was to help scrub her intestines. When it does come out the other side, it is usually mostly intact in long strings...well, when her bowels are loose, I see it like that, but when they are firm, there doesn't seem to be any sign of it. I vote for a "tasty" parasite cleanse. Something akin to our brushing our teeth every morning, it is just good maintenance of the tummy!

Thanks for the insight guys

lol ok what is really funny is my mother in law the first time she seen Bella when she was about 100lbs said " thats not a dog thats a cow!"
and they way I see her eat grass I'm thinking she may have something there..lol

Now my lil poof poodle Sunny only eats grass when she has an upset tummy. I will go help her find "the right perfect grass, she has to have it very fine and soft. and I will throw in a bit of catnip too to help settle her tummy down too.

Bella just seems to be grazing all over the yard... good thing we have 3 acres for her to do that.

Denna likes the sweet grass that grows in wetland areas... that's the BEST grass, apparently... she'll pull me into the water to grab a nibble.

Around the house, she'll go crazy grazing if her tummy's upset, or if she's hungry (i.e. if she didn't get dinner the night before), but otherwise, she still grabs a nibble here and there randomly.

It doesn't matter what she's eaten - as long as she did GET dinner, that is - and she sometimes gets a blended greens supplement called "Green Juju" (made in the local Seattle area) which full of green stuff, but she'll still go for the fresh yard stuff, anyway.

She's my little Ferdinand. :)

My vet asked if Chev ate grass. I said, "Yes." She said, "My dogs eat grass too...they graze." This sometimes results in "roundworms". Keep up with the heartworm med and the dog will be fine. That's all I know.

cows 2.jpg Speaking of black and white animals, Joyce and I saw what is affectionately referred to as "Oreo Cows" because they have a white stripe around their middle. We saw these in the New England states. I'll try to dig up a picture. The picture is a bit lacking, as I snapped it out of the bus window while it was raining !!!
