I am currently fostering a Cane Corso that is recovering from an extreme case of demodex. Most of the time if a dog is under stress the demodex will break out. Ivermectin is the best way to treat this. Give it orally and it will kill off the mites. Otis my foster had sat in a shelter and "rotted" for 2 months before rescue stepped in. the shelter was treating it as a food allergy? anyways, he was a total mess almost bald, feet and face severly swollen couldn't walk and barely see. From his chin to his chest was raw like hamburger and dripping blood along with his groin and arm pits. He was also very under weight. It take time to kill off the mites, using a Ketachlor shampoo helps with the smell. attached are pictures of Otis from day one and today/

He looks really good!!! I remember your first post about him. You should re post pics on his own thread so everyone can see how great he looks. Thanks for doing what you do!!! It takes a special person to not give up on these dogs especially eveything he had going on!!!!! The vet said we could always go to ivermectin but wanted to try the ointment first because it was so localized and small

There is a lot of info on the forum about demodex mange. I, personally, have not dealt with demodex. *knock on wood* Do a search for demodex to see other medications that others have been vet prescribed.

Hope your baby starts to feel better.

BTW, welcome to the forum. Do you have pics of your new baby?

I went on amazon.com by the advice of my vet and bought goodwinol ointment for luna because she had a very localized spot which my vet scraped to diagnose. Its gone now. I put the ointment on once a day. They sell big jars so this could be a start along with meds your vet gave you. Also she said they could do a dip which Luna didnt need or an oral. It takes time to clear up and on some days looked worse before it got better. Hope your guy feels better!!!!

I dust my Dogs with DE every few months let them where it a day or 2 then rinse them off. It will kill off just about any parasite on them in a day or 2.

Unfortunately, due to ignorance on my part, there were several spots on my 4 1/2 month EM before I took him to the vet. He wasn't itchy and the spots were so light I just thought he was losing his summer coat. Within a week or so, however, I know something was wrong. I immediately, then, took him to the vet and scrapings showed Demodex. I'm so mad at myself for not realizing sooner. Anyway, because spots were onboth sides of his body, our vet prescribed Mitaban dips for every other week for eight weeks. I'm hoping this works because I can't stand seeing the spots on him! I'm thankful it's treatable though. Good luck!
