Kryten had a check up today and everything is good except for the fact that he put on 20 lbs in the last 6 months. I've been monitoring his weight by watching his tuck up and it is the largest I've ever seen on him. Even the vet was surprised to see the weight increase because she thought he looked good when standing. Given his elbows we want his weight around 85kg (190lbs) today he weighed in at 96.5kg (212lbs). Guess someone gets to go on a diet and we will attempt to increase his activity level but I'm not sure how well that will work in the current heat wave. I also know know I can't go by visual cues to monitor his weight.

Oh, Kryten...have you been sneaking snacks behind your mommy's back?

Seriously though, you'll just have to do the early am, early pm walks... It's too hot here too. Stupid weather, I feel like I'm walking in three seasons at once...all that is missing is the snow (heaven help us!) Right now we're baking. Poor dogs are locked inside to keep them healthy. I don't know what it's like out west, but here in Southern Ontario, wedged between two Great Lakes, It's Humid Hot. You feel like you've been swimming in your clothes by the end of the day. The dogs must be so miserable. I hope yours is a dry heat...people and animals do so much better in a dry heat.

Is there any way that you could get Kryten to walk on a treadmill? We've tried, but ours won't. Still, if you have access to one, you could try before you buy.

Can you get Kryten to share his secret with me? I would love to know how he hides an extra 20lbs!

Well here in the Silicon Valley of CA it is also hot but not so humid. Just hot.

The hardest part is going to be getting myself up early enough to take him out before work as it is staying hot late into the evenings. I discovered his stride is too long for the treadmill I have and after the first try he won't go anywhere near it. Since it is a dislike rather than a fear I haven't tried too hard to make him get closer than he wants especially since I can't use it for him.
It is a very dry heat here with no cloud cover or even the prediction of rain.

I wish I could have sent you half of the April, May, June rain. Farmers' fields were swamped and rivers have been overflowing and bursting their banks all over the province. It was a great year to have flood insurance...And A Boat.

It got so bad, I started joking with customers that we did sell canoes and paddle boards...just in case.

Is there any chance that you could hire or "inspire" someone to be your dog walker. The pups could get walked while you are getting ready for work...?

He's being very mean and not sharing. It might be punishment for putting him on a diet or the fact that he can't speak english. LOL
