Day 39 and big ALREADY.

Remi had her ultrasound on Day 27, he said that 5 puppies were seen; 4 puppies in 1 horn, and 1 in the other horn. He did say it was not 100% accurate, but that he was very close if not accurate on the count. She is now on Day 39 and already showing significantly. I'm thinking way more than 5 puppies are in there. She has an X-Ray scheduled for Day 45 on May 2, so we'll see then. But I'm curious if anyone else has experience with ultrasound counts being totally wrong? Here's a picture from last night:

Well they aren't always accurate but keep in mind some of those puppies could be pretty big puppies too and 5 is a pretty typical litter size.
In any case that is so exciting! :)

Oh my goodness I know! So excited! But the puppies don't increase in size much before Day 40! So that's what's alarming to me. I'm like a mother hen, I want to keep her in an air conditioned bubble! [emoji23]

I had a Newfy bitch that I had an implant done on and when we checked by ultra sound it was negative. She ultimately had 2 pups. I was pretty surprised because although she kept telling me that she was hungry, with only 2 pups, she never looked pregnant.

Wow! I was reading other forums last night about basically exactly what I asked and someone had an ultrasound done on a lab and they predicted 2, she had 12!

Do you health test all your pups before placing them? What kind of contract do you use for potential buyers?

I don't think there's much in the way of health testing you can do on an 8 week old pup .......have them all checked for murmurs , and at 8 weeks innocent murmurs are pretty common ......... as far as accuracy between x-ray and ultrasound , I think it depends on the equipment and experience of the vet ... I've seen both be exact and inexact ........ as far as supplements , I think with the effort put into food and feeding nowadays , deficiencies are pretty uncommon .... as far as your dogs winning shows , I would hope their conformation and movement is more than likely the reason ..... I've seen some genetically extremely muscled dogs that were conformationally horrible , with terrible movement ....... in bully dogs folks are especially enamored with the wider the front the better , to the point where it is actually a disability ........
