Dammit Spartacus!!

I went today to buy two different bags Nature's Variety Duck Meal and AvoDerm Salmon Meal. I also bought a small can of Nature's Variety Instinct Grain-Free dog food.

So Spartacus... did not like any of the kibble but ate all the can dog food. smh. Can I get some input. I have gone through 5 bags of different dog foods for him to try and he doesn't eat niether. What is the difference in "can" and "bag" food for a 6 week old CC. I have run out of ideas and I feel helpless in trying to get him in the right path. I rescued him at a small age, I know, but it was either that or whatever his future would've been.

I took him to the vet today and at 6 weeks he's at 6 pounds and according to a post I saw he should be at 21 pounds in 8 weeks. Maybe some cc. or mastiffs grow in different paces but I definitely worried. Should I be?

Thanks in advance.

Dogue de Bordeaux's are notoriously picky eaters- as i was warned by my breeder that she gets her dogs to eat any flavor of Taste of The Wild- but not much else. I tried a different brand almost immediately when i brought him home- at first he ate the new food- and eventually he turned his nose up to it. Most recently- i tried him on a new food again- because of vitamin content is higher than taste of the wild- and he just began to snub this new food also. so he is now back on taste of the wild and probably will be for the rest of his life. I will supplement other needed vitamins. i give up..but try taste of the wild. if Atlas likes it i am sure you dog will. And its not a half bad food- but he is prone to skin allergies if he does not have the proper high level of certain vitamins which is why i was trying to get him off. and yes i tried mixing other foods with canned and human food and anything under the sun but he just wasnt having it...

Don't freak out about his weight. Canned food can get very expensive as you have to feed more than one can a day. How long do you leave the food out? If he's hungry he'll eventually eat what's there. You can try to mix a little canned in the kibble to see if that's helped but once you start doing that be prepared for the possibility of doing it forever.

If you want to try taste of the wild you can feed Sierra mountain or any of the puppy formulas. I personally hate diamond and its made by diamond but don't let that stop you. I really hope you can find something he likes soon because feeding all these different foods is not good for his digestive system.

I think he's testing your patience. I say this only bc I went through the same thing with my EM when I first brought her home. Canned food can be expensive but maybe if you only mix like 1 tablespoon in his dry to entice him to eat it would help? Of course he's choosing the crap food over what he's supposed to be eating bc it puts off a stronger odor & probably attracts him.

hi...my situation was very similar to yours...i got my puppy at one month (i wouldn't have minded a little bit later but i had to) and he was 4 pounds more or less...at the beginning i was having trouble feeding him with just kibbles. i was always forced to mix something else with kibbles, such as meat can, chicken, swordfish and so on...to be honest he ate and grew up, at 2 months he was about 15 pounds...then he started being picky and choosy, he didn't want to eat anything he had already had, he always wanted to try something new for him...i couldn't take it anymore so i begun to act tough and strong...just kibbles....he didn't eat for 36 hours, but when he got that kibbles was the only thing he could get from me, everything changed...now he has been eating just kibbles for 3 weeks more or less and last week at 3 month he was 30 pounds...
i wouldn't tell you to offer him just kibbles, because he is very young and i think he wouldn't understand that he has to have just those...i would mix something with kibbles, for example meat can if he likes that, then as the time goes by i would decrease the quantity of the can and increase the kibbles, until he has just kibbles...probably you are gonna go crazy, i did...but eventually you will get rewarded...hold on !!!

I would add a little something to the food you have. Green beans, fat free yogurt or something to that affect. When we gets hungry be will eat. I suggested the mothers milk not so much because he needs it but so he would like it a little better. I feed earthborn holistics from mrchewy.com and Max loves it. Id say just add a little something to make him more interested in it.
