Chicken feet?

Finally tried chicken feet. Titan loves them! I had to touch them to put them in his food bowl...not so bad. I paid $1.29 a lb at a local Asian supermarket. They had some really gross meat at the market. I'll return to buy more meat for Titan because it's closer to me than the Fiesta Mart. They had chicken hearts for $1.19 lb.

I paid $2.50 a pound for duck feet from my raw supplier. I will have to check out the asian market! Decker just tried duck feet this morning. He wasn't sure what to do with them at first. I let him out in the yard and he carried it around for a minute, looking for places to stash it. Finally settled under a tree to chew it. Went back to the bowl for another with a waggy tail, back to the tree to chew it! Cute.

Hare Today sells them if you get desperate, but she does have a minimum 5lb order....maybe pick up something else too? I have to admit that my local asian markets are spotty about them, and when I asked if I could order them I just got blank looks, not sure if it was a language barrier or not....

ewwwwwww, I think the toenails are gross too. I bought them for my last dog and my kids ran screaming from the house. They were 13,15,8 yrs old. I think they are wrong.
As for price I use to pay $7 for 4 of them. That's it I'm moving to the States

*smack* I keep forgetting about them....Just brought some more food for the boys today at the meat market. I was hoping that I would get lucky and find a place local that would carry some raw food items but alas.....

lol! TX has the best prices ever on almost all such stuff, I gripe about it on occasion. Don't move to NY, our prices aren't THAT much better than yours...

Not to mention I have to travel 20 mins to get the "yucky toe nail, old looking granny chicken feet" on top of getting ripped off!!!!!

Do some digging, you might be able to find someone who'll sell them to you by the pound, you can always freeze them. I just bought two pounds from Hare Today (I don't think she ships to Canada, sorry), decided to go ahead and home dehydtrate one pound....Apollo isn't overly excited about them raw, he'll eat them, but its not a big thing. He likes store bought dehydrated better, but I refuse to pay those prices on a regular basis...but he LOVES my home dehydrated ones I just pulled out of the dehydrator!

I go through between 1/3 to 1/2lb of organ a day. I can get beef liver locally, but anything else besides heart (which is muscle) is iffy. Probly about 1/2 of their daily organ intake is the ground beef organ blend, the rest...sometimes I'll toss in poultry gizzerds, beef liver (bought locally), or what ever else I can get (sometimes I can get poultry organs local, but I have to be carefull giving those to Arty). So the 1lb package of of ground beef organ blend lasts a minimum of 2 days (if thats all I do for organ and Apollo's in a growth spurt) to 6 days if I supplement with other stuff. Not the cheapest way to do things, but organs are the one thing I'm struggling with locally (though some things her prices are better than my local price, her turkey wings and drums for example).

My suggestion: If you can get organs local, cheaper, then fill out the box with odd stuff that you can't get locally, say goat bones, or the like (though I'll note that the 2lb package of chicken feet doesn't take up much freezer room, you could do several pounds of chicken feet and stash 'em).

Its free delivery, not shipping, unfortunetly.....not sure I want to price shipping frozen from TX to NY....

Good tips Ruth, organ meat is a bit harder to find locally other than the hearts. The place I get the boy's food can only order a certain items. For example I asked to get tripe but the lady says the place they get it from can't sell it :/ . Beef is expensive here even when its on "sale". Another thing is I have to be careful with what I buy. Thor is a picky bastard, I'm not sure how Stone is but he seems to eat anything he can get his mouth on.

Ok guys. I would love to get Murphy all those gross treats but I really don't know what to ask for. He needs bones and after reading "no weight bearing" Im not sure what to ask for for bones either. I have a few local butchers so its not a problem. Just don't wanna look like an idiot when he asks what I want
