Charlie Gaining One Pound A Week

I was actually concerned that he might be a bit too thin (ribs showing).
I would like him to grow slow and steady, and gain appropriate weight for his breed combination and age group.

Best wishes,

~Elana~
I have been told numerous times the rib thing.... run your fingers down their rib cage... you should be able to feel all the ribs, and should be able to see some definition of the last 2 or 3 when standing back and looking....
Now... im not sure if I got all of that right... but that's what I try to do with cinder... its hard to keep the balance as they grow because they do grow so fast...
If you see more of the ribs starting to show... go ahead and give your pup more food.... if you see those last 2 or 3 ribs starting to dissappear. ... adjust down the amount....
Unfortunately there is no specific guide to the amount of food to feed our fur babies... we have "suggestions" of where to start... just like humans... each dog is different... and we as fur baby parents have to learn what works best for each individual dog...

Oh my goodness, your darling is definitely not shy about letting it all hang out, is he? I almost choked on my ice tea when I saw that picture.

Cane Corso's, are a bit lighter in built, aren't they, compared to a Bullmastiff or a Boerboel (?) I'm just going by pictures of the different breeds.

I guess I'll stick with what Chuckie- bear is getting now, and keep a close eye on him. If he stops gaining weight, I'll up the food, if he starts looking porky, I'll reduce the amounts somewhat.

He has a Vet appt next Friday, so I should be able to get a more accurate weight for him (rather than my son picking up this wriggling giant pup and weighing him while standing precariously on the scale).

@Winter's Cinder ,

Yea, I can feel his ribs, and see them too when he's standing a certain way.. I'll try and snap a picture from above as well, to give an idea of his figure.

When he moves, he makes me think of a klutzy lion cub, lol.

One thing you likely will have to get used to is him airing it out. Kryten is on his back about 75% of the time when asleep, 20% is 'broken puppy' positions and only 5% of the time in a normal looking position.

LOL, that's hilarious.

Chuckle Bum Charlie, is at the stage now, where the front end doesn't quite seem to know what the back end is doing most of the time. At times, he'll even look back there with a puzzled look on his face as if to say : What's going on back there....

Outside just a few minutes ago, I told him to go pee (which he did and was very proud of himself). Then I told him to go poo. He looked at me with great consternation on his smooshy face. I repeated the request, at which point a light went on and Charlie stuck his nose under his tail, then looked back at me. "Yes!" I told him, and away he went to produce a big pile of the requested product.

It used to freak me out that he could sleep with half of his body in one direction, and the other half in the opposite one. Still does, this thing can't be natural.

Yes, Corsos have a different body. Mine has a bit of extra skin (a lot), and it's very thick, so it's hard to see ribs, no matter how tucked in his tummy is.

Haven't seen Charlie do that yet, lol. I think that would freak me out as well.... echoes of The Exorcist

Good grief, I hope not o_O.

You get used to it. Occasionally they can still find a position that makes you question how they even got in to it let alone how it could possibly be comfortable but as far as I can tell it's a good thing. They are comfortable and relaxed enough that they don't need to be ready to jump up instantly.

I didn't realize this was such a common sleep position in the breed!

Charlie does sleep on his back occasionally, but doesn't do the contortionist thing 'YET'.

Mostly he likes to sleep beside or on top of his little Katy .
