Crossing fingers for you!

(I'm headed to bed shortly, but will answer anything pending in the morning if no one else beats me to it!)

Yes ma'am (is it ma'am?)

One last question - I've read that you should start out bone heavy rather than meat heavy when starting raw. Which means chicken back/neck better idea. Should I run out and get some instead of giving him a leg?

ma'am is correct (Ruth is actually my name lol)

For today, do the drumstick (which are often 50% bone anyway give or take), but if you can get necks/backs you may indeed need the extra bone to start with. Eventually you want to get him down to no more than 10% bone daily, but yah, you'll likely need more to begin with.

Will do - I'll give him a leg in the afternoon and get backs/neck for evening.

I'm Neelanjana - Neelu for short. It's so much easier this way :)

Good night! Thank you for the gem you are!

Of course! Ruth was one of the firsts who told me to go raw (in a previous thread), and now I'm attached like a remora (the tiny fish under a shark's mouth) to her! :)

First successful chicken leg INHALED! I had to sit there and feed him by hand, because he consumes his food like he's never eaten before! Here's what happened: Crunch (from the bone in the meaty part), a hark (regurgitation of the meat - bone swallowed), then meat swallowed, another crunch (half of the rest gone) and gulp gulp (swallowed the rest).

I'm a little worried - I think he has pretty much inhaled the bones as well. Is there something I should look out for? Will he be fine? Should I give him the chicken back/neck in the evening, considering how he ate the leg or no? Will the bones affect him?

She is 15 weeks now. Getting so big. I couldn't believe the problems you are having getting food for him. What a pain. Thank God he has a dedicated mommy

Yeah, I couldn't believe it either. But now that I'm going the raw way, let's hope everything works out :)

Out of curiosity, what do you feed her?

hah, yah, good thing you hand fed him, he does need to crunch those bones a little. What he did sounds fine, but you don't want him swallowing a drumstick whole either. He'd probly be fine, but why worry?

My biggest concern is that his system will just reject it and you'll get cannon butt. Extra bone will make that less likely. If its not to late I'd go with the rice/yogurt/pumpkin and a chicken neck or back for supper, and something similer tomorrow. If he doesn't have cannon butt then just switch over!

explosive diarrhea lol I'm just concerned that with his system being screwy it'll reject the raw completely, but I'm going to guess thats not the case since its been several hours and you've not said so ;)

Pahahahahahaha! New term learnt today.

He pottied once after his afternoon meal - semi solid, though a lot yellower than it usually is. Definitely not loose, but not well formed either. I've been keeping a hawk's eye on him in case he's facing any discomfort, but he's playing and running around as normal.

The butcher ran out of necks and backs by the time I got to him - he'll give me some tomorrow late in the morning. I gave him rice/pumpkin/yogurt with chicken legs for now. Have asked hubby to look for some at another butcher. In case he doesn't get any, I still have some legs and thighs in the freezer. Should I give those to him tomorrow morning as well?

I had to feed him by hand again, or he would have swallowed it whole! He's not really chewing the bones, just breaking it enough to fit in his mouth/down his throat and pretty much swallowing whole. Is this okay?
