Changing stool - confusing time!

Yay! Thank you to everyone who suffered :)p) through this whole post to offer me advice! Boone's doing tons better and I've managed to convince another BM owner (who also has a St Bernard) to switch to raw as well! YAY!

Update: We'd taken Boone to my friend's (mentioned in the earlier comment) place for some socializing with her pups (adorable two!). He did a LOT of playing around. Is still totally pooped from that!

BUT, he hasn't pooped since morning. I'm not sure if he did last night either, she has a huge yard and all three were there together. There was poop, but I'm not sure if any of it was his. I've given him some yogurt and pumpkin after his breakfast, but he's still fast asleep showing no signs of wanting to go. Should I do something else?

Okay he pooped. Dirty stinky blackish poo like clay :yuck:. He decided to punish me for all the play!

Ok, gotta verify, its not black and tarry right? If you added beef to his diet that will darken his poo, and he could be having some digestive issues since its a new meat, but I want to make sure.

I'd be surprised if he didn't poop, with all the running around. That seems to help move it through the system faster, which means if he did it was probly pretty soft. So I'd not worry to much if he didn't poop the next morning.

Not tarry, just blackish with some mucus thrown in for good measure :D. There is no change in energy now (I think he's slept off all of last night's activities). No change in appetite either - wants to eat everything possible, including my clothes!

I haven't added beef as yet. Bought it so I can freeze for a week before giving it to him. Or is that only for pork?

lol! It was probly just the running around then.

If you're not sure of the quality of the beef then feeze it. Better safe than sorry!

IMO, you started the beef too early hence the black stools. You will find that Boone will poop less and they will be smaller poops when on the raw diet. Titan poops once every other day sometimes he will go 2 days. Titan also doesn't drink as much water as he used to drink since being on raw. The additional benefits of raw... :)

I haven't started it as yet, but have bought some to freeze for at least a week before I give it to him. Meat's a little questionable here, so Ruth (and I believe you too - a few pages ago :)) suggested freezing for a while before giving it.

I'm so used to him going a few times a day, it's a huge change for me and hubby when he doesn't go at least once in the morning and once in the evening. Till the day before yesterday, he was going an average of 3 times a day :). I'll calm down if he doesn't go, now that I know how few times Titan goes :D

I've definitely noticed the water thing. He will still go to the bowl, but he'll dip his face in it and then walk around where he wants to lie (dripping the water of course), usually close to the bowl itself. He'll then spread it around and plonk!

Apollo's mostly settled on once a day poops, but every other day, or even every 2nd day has happened and he's fine.

Quick update: Poop is slowly turning dark brown, though still soft (not loose - formed, but soft). The stench is still blaaarrrgghh! He's been going once a day since yesterday :)

Yeah he does, I get that reaction from folks here as well. Including my hubby. Who has now (after chiding me and questioning everything I wanted to do for Boone for over a month!) accepted that anything and everything I've done for Boone (translation: followed you guys' advice) has brought him back.

I'd still be struggling if ruth, deb, you, jacksthedog and a few others hadn't come around when you guys did. Thank you! :)
