Changing food question

I got Earthborn Coastal catch to switch Menace to. On Friday, for dinner I did a 75/25 mix of the food. Then he swallowed the bone.

On Saturday he pooped every 2 hours. It was soft and later in the evening it was watery. I fed him some pumpkin along with his regular food and it got firm for one BM, but soft again. I didn't want to put his GI into any more hardship, so I fed him his regular food all weekend.

His poop was still really soft today (not watery or explosive). My question is, do I wait for what ever distress is happening to pass? Feed chicken and rice? Or go ahead with working on the switch?

I do have to say that I am proud of my pup. He had ZERO accidents in the house!

I'm kinda lazy and usually just make a big ole pot of chicken and rice and reheat from there. I'm sure if you google you'd find actual proportions but I just wing it. Careful with the pumpkin though because too much pumpkin can cause diarrhea as well.

I looked it up. Ratio of 2:1 rice to chicken and 2 TBS pumpkin.

After 2 days of this, then I can slowly add in his new food, right?

I don't think the chicken and rice is working. Today's stool was horrible, VERY loose and full of whole grains of rice. My husband fed him a greenie yesterday and his stool was bright green. It is almost 2 full days on the chicken and rice and pumpkin, how long do I give it?

Upwards of a week.

And yah, the one time I gave Apollo a greenie his poop was bright green too. I'd skip the greenies and go with as few extra treats (bare minimum for training basically) as possible during this time, to help his system reset.

Yeah, I wish he hadn't given him one. He treats him because he thinks the dog is starving. I don't know if I am feeding him enough of the chicken and rice.

If you do hamburger make sure you boil off and drain off as much fat as possible. I don't see why you can't switch, but it still make take several days for his system to settle.

Okay, it is getting worse. Worse than it was Sunday or Monday (Didn't start the chicken and rice until Monday dinner). The rice is coming out the same way it is going in. I was thinking maybe put it in the food processor, he is swallowing and not chewing. I was also thinking leave out the pumpkin for now. What do you think?

Go ahead and switch to the beef I think.

The food processor can't hurt.

Can you get Slippery Elm Bark Powder? If you have a hippy health food store nearby they'll likely carry it. You can sub that for the pumpkin.

I just looked it up, it looks like Walgreens and the Vitamin Shoppe carry it. I will go get some. What is the dosage?

Instructions vary, but about 1/4 the adult human dose for a pup that size. You can mix it it right into his food.

2 hours
3 lbs of ground beef
8 cups of rice
Slippery Elm bark tea
A totally messed up kitchen
Baby food is made.

He ate dinner, it took him a long time to eat it! Fingers crossed!
