Central Asian Shepherd Pup Logan

He is the biggest in the litter. He was since day 1. 2 males. 4 females. But compared to some that are bred for fighting. He is average. I think he will probably be the typical 150 - 175. Probably more toward the 175. There is a funny video of a gigantic CAS. Where they breed for more size. He has a horrible rear end. It looks like cow hocks. Just as with some Neo's , people have taken a great breed and distorted it. In this video the CAS is strong, but too big. And badly built .

Little bear is enjoying full time :) i must compliment you for all your research you are doing wanting to learn all about that breed not just his size. I also like your breeder when telling about how americans first ask how big is dog and how big it will be,for me that is very bad thing as now days people are obssesed how big their dogs will be, and i know for sure that you are not like that and that is great. i wanted to ask you what does your little bear eat? Give him a hug he looks so soft :)

Yeah. Ive noticed that to. Those giant ones seem to be used more for what they refer to as "testing" purposes or fighting. I always assumed they were good for other traditional working task too.

But then I saw your breeder say the same thing TylerDurden mention about the size. Which makes perfect sense. Wonder if the giant ones are capable of any traditional type work at all.

I think they would be capable of traditional work, but they're harder to deal with. A lot of them have been crossed with Caucasian Shepherds, and it has changed the temperament. They also started breeding to have more of an underbite which is not traditional at all.

Thanks Kingmark. Yeah there is a trend toward wanting a "big" dog, rather than caring about health or temperament. We wanted a dog with a good temperament and strong guarding ability. That's why we chose Renat. The sire of our pup is imported from Kazakhstan from traditional working lines. And his dogs have excellent temperament.

He is currently eating Diamond puppy. That's what Renat had him on. But we are going to transition him to raw. I'm a bit nervous about it, but I have done a lot of research and feel confident that I can handle it. :) any advice is greatly appreciated

He is soft!! They have an awesome double coat. Renat has a video showing how filthy they get, and somehow the next day they are clean. I have priced that burrs roll right off of him, as to where our mini schnauzer gets them all tangled in her fur, and I end up having to cut them out....

I read that the nomads would use the Alabais fur for clothes. Not sure if it's accurate but I thought that was cool.
Their color is meant to blend in with the sheep they are protecting. Karakuls are known to stand up to dogs who trying to heard them. The calm temperament and strong will of the Alabai area good match for the Karakuls.

So I never really asked his breeder about the weight of the dogs, cause his dogs are in good condition and weight is not something we were concerned with. So I talked to him and was a bit off in my estimate. He said he believes Logan will not get any heavier than 155-158. Which would be good working condition. And he said quote " Weight is very critical for this breed. It should not be less than 110(to light to be successful in fight with wolves) and not over 160(lost mobility). "

Enjoying our little polar bear. He's 9 weeks old and weighs 24 lbs. He's playful and smart, and already stalking things like a cat! This breed has been referred to as" cats in dog suits" He noticed the horses across the street today and started quietly and stealthily stalking up to get a better look. I've never seen a dog act the way he does. He then sat and watched them. One came closer, so he gave it a warning bark. I pet him and told him its o.k. So he just watched them. Never letting them out of his sight. We are all in love with our little bear. He is going to be a great dog! IMAG0687~2.jpg I can't get good pictures of him when he's awake. He runs around too much :)

As he grows and sleeps under your feet you can use him as a foot rest....I do with Bella..but beware of those times when they wake up suddenly and jump up on all 4s then runs ..... Bella scared the crap out of me the first time she did that...lol
