  • Welcome back!

We decided to spruce things up and fix some things under the hood. If you notice any issues, feel free to contact us as we're sure there are a few things here or there that we might have missed in our upgrade.

Cazador, my Dogo Argentino has arrived...

I wanna know who rubbed the Mt. Lions butt with the ball ;)
The lion butt was in a bottle, thank god. I'm not "moutain man" enough to wrestle lions for a little lion funk to train my dogs with. LOL

It's a bottle of stink I recovered from the last cat we got.

Brad your pack sure is growing, he's a cutie are you setting him on any hogs? ;P
He'll be on some hog one day, I hope! :)

In addition, Brad's YouTube account shows that he has had an Akita, Jindo, and Shikoku.

While I know Brad is part of the Nihon Ken forums, I wonder what draws him to the LGD breeds, other than for protection.

O okay, you guys must really have a cat problem..
Yes we do. We actually have a lion that stalks our yard every AM. Kinda scary.

We still have our Jindo, he's a temporary resident. I didn't include temporary residents in my dog count.

As for why I like LGD and Mastiffs, I have a thing for aggressive dogs. That's just it. I dunno why, I like the complex and somewhat black/white attitude of a real aggressive animal. However I do not like quarrelsome animals... I find that LGD and Mastiffs are aggressive w/o being quarrelsome. It's a nice contrast from our Nihon Ken as they are typically quarrelsome animals.

I get a lot of questions like "how do you mix these large aggressive breeds"... but the irony is it's the small Nihon Ken who are the difficult ones to mix for us. The Mastiffs and LGD are typically much easier and more predictable than the smaller spitzy breeds.

Thank you all!

Brad how do you deal with all that Energy in your yard! Lol.
Well, it's rare that I have them all out at the same time. We usually rotate them in smaller groups. When you have a large number of dogs it's all about managing the personalities and grouping them with complementary partners.

I'll add that not all of our dogs get along. All of our molossers and mastiffs do, but not all of our spitzy dogs. For example, my Kishu doesn't do well with my Jindo or one of our male Kai. So Kishin, the Kishu, is usually out with girl Kai and Akashi, one of our male Kai. While Jingu, our Jindo, is out with my hunting dogs and the girl kai.

things change too, a few weeks ago I couldn't have my Jindo out with the hunting dogs as Ike, my male West Siberian Laika, wanted to eat him... But this week they are fine. You know, it's like managing a bunch of schoolkids. They all have their own personalities and can have good and bad days. It's a moving target.

I imagine you work form home than? It is probably an all day feat to swap them out.
Yes, I work from home. My wife is home two days a week too. It only takes a few minutes to move the dogs around, but I have to do it like 5 times a day. Then feeding time takes about 30 minutes - twice a day... So I figure it all adds up to take the same amount of time as a typical commute to and from work for someone who doesn't work from home.

However there are days that I just have to put the dogs up and say "it's a nap day guys" so I can focus on my work... Then other days I don't get much work done because something happens with the dogs. Like last week all of our Kai Ken escaped the yard 4 times!

Then there are the walks, I walk most of them every day. But I do that very early in the AM and late at night.

Oh man! Never a Boring day at your house it seems. Lol. I love what you say about personality. Lots of people I know don't seem to register that dogs have personalities. Almost as if they are blank and you program them how you want them. Like a dog that is great with dogs and than goes aggressive with one dog and they don't know why. I chalk it down to their personalities just don't mix. You can't throw a dog into a pack and EXPECT them to fit in,

For sure you can't expect every dog to like every dog. I know I don't like every person I meet and I don't expect any of my dogs to either.

I think that is where the "pack leader" nonsense has done the most damage to dogdom. Dogs have likes and dislikes just like people. They aren't simply state machines who respond mindlessly to a ridged pecking order. They're not drones, ya know?
