Thanks for the advice! I bought a lot of KONG toys. My mom (proud owner of a toy poodle) bought her a cute little stuff-less bunny. My first thought was... I wonder how long that will last.

When we were doing Drop It, we introduced the concept by trading up - Oscar's got a stick or something, I say "Drop It" and pass him a squeaky ball. Once he had the basic concept we started applying it to low-value things with no trade-up. We didn't ask him to drop his rawhide, for example, just a small stick or a corn husk or whatever. As you go, work your way up to higher value things like chewies and favorite toys. We're still working on Oscar for his really loved items but we try to remember not to just take things away permanently either. As in, I'll have him drop a stick, congratulate him when he does it, then pick it up and give it back to him. That way it doesn't become "every time I drop my toy/treat mom takes it away".
Oscar's an adult (adopted) but if he can handle it it should be no work at all for you to get your pup to get the hang of it :)

Thanks Brittany, he is a smart little guy for 12 weeks.
As for drop it, that is basically me getting my socks and shoes out of his mouth by trading with a toy or treat.

Marrow seems to have a pretty good system and i am going to definitely going to start doing that. He already knows what he should NOT have in his mouth.. but just cant seem to help himself.

WELCOME!! Cane Corso are in one word AWESOME! There is a group on here for them. Everyone on this site and in the group for Corso's are extremley helpful. As a new Corso owner my self I know how daunting all the info can be, but trust me when I say we are all Dog Lovers. Try to stay constant that is the message I have always received and applied to great joy on my part. lol
They are VERY VERY VERY Intelligent, don't let the cuteness fool you.. On the training.. Your choice the big key again in being consistent and socialization.. Pet Store, Walks, Family, Friends over Whatever it takes..Keep us updated on your little one's progress.

I just read that you are wanting to do the reading buddy program.
That is Awesome :) I do therapy work at our Children's hospital with our 3 year old girl. We have also done the literacy program at the Library here with her, Story PALS. It was a blast and we look forward to doing it again this spring :)

Cody,
That's great to hear. How long, and what steps did you have to take to get your girl to the point where she was ready to go into hospitals?

A ton of training and socialization.
We became part of PALS (pet access league society) when she was 15 months. We had to pas a series of tests, the longest one was over 1.5 hours when all was said and done, the were accepted into their program. The first year we did seniors residences, pallitive care and the library reading program. Then we started doing day camps for kids with cerebral palsy. After a little over the year PALS asked if we were interested in he Children's Hospital :)
It was really just getting her used to everything, loud noises, banging, people crowds... She came everywhere I could think of. That is the key is to make them bomb proof.
Good luck

Piper is being shipped out on Wednesday! I'm so excited it's hard to fall asleep....I'm also a little nervous. I have everything I need for her, I just want to be sure I train her properly from the start. I feel like I've read every post on here trying to absorb all the advice!
