Broken Puppy

Sunday, Cruiser refused to put his leg down and there was some swelling. But after warm compresses is now doing fine. Yesterday I received a call from his surgeon which took me by surprise. I never expected him to call and check in on our pup. I figured if anything, a staff member would call to remind us to schedule xrays. I texted him pics of the leg/stitches and he gave me his opinions of how he was healing. He even called in a new rx to my local vet to help keep my boy calm. I have to say, I am quite impressed with this vet and wish he were local. Maybe, just maybe I have found a vet worth the money I paid...maybe!

Wow, that is awsome follow up from the vet, it is too bad he isn't closer. I wish we had one like that here!

My silly boy is playing us with the broken leg! He knows he is not allowed on the sofa. This am he was up at 5:30 and was pretty frisky, its been hard to keep him quiet. So I put him in the living room with a chew after giving him breakfast. Usually he lays in front of the patio doors and watches me turn the horses out. When I came back in, my hubby wanted to know what I had done to keep Cruiser quiet. When we walked into the living room the turd was lying on the couch on his back, feet in the air, head on the arm of the couch watching TV. When he realized he was busted, he whined, turned over and touched a front paw to the floor like he was going to slide down to the floor, instead he whined, touched his stitches with his nose and curled back up on the couch. He closed his eyes like he was going to sleep.

Awww, that is too cute and too funny. And did you give in to him or tell him to get off the floor? If it was the latter, I think he has you wrapped around his little paw.

Got stitches removed by my local vet on Saturday. It took all of 5 min and she said it was one of the best incisions she has ever seen! There will only be a minimal scar after it completely heals. Cruiser was a big sap kissing on everyone within reach.

Last night we left the windows open because it was going to be a nice chilly night, when we woke up it was freezing cold indoors! When I complained, my hubby laughed and said it felt great! He said to suck it up! After taking a nice hot shower, I walked into the living room to find my silly pup curled up on the couch with my favorite blanket wrapped around him, when I asked what the heck, my husband said that Cruiser was cold! Talk about messed up! And he says I am the one spoililng him! :lolbangtable:

Just thought I would mention, Cruiser broke his leg on Sept10th while chasing our cat, Badin. Apparently the screaming while in pain, was enough to make her understand why she should not tease him. Its Sept 27th and Badin has yet to approach him. In the mornings she lays on the roof of our 2 car detached garage and watches him do his business. In the afternoons, she lays on the chicken coop and does the same. Always watches him from at least 100 feet away. She waits until he goes inside and then approaches the patio doors and will nose the glass with him on the other side but never comes within touching distance while he is outdoors. Before the accident she would rush him while he was doing his business, or slap & run, or steal his food for a chase, alway baiting him to chase her, which he always did. I wonder if she is being sensitive since he is still limping or if she is scared she will hurt him again!

Wow what an ordeal. Can't believe I didn't see this before. Cruiser sounds like such a sweet boy and a great patient.

I don't know if that pricing is typical in your area, but you got a great deal by NYC standards. We needs more pictures!

Oh, regarding the keeping him calm, some of the mom & pop pet stores carry 36 inch bullysticks. They used to keep Mason entertained for up to an hour.

Also deer or elk antlers:

or you can try some interactive toys:

A good massage can also put a puppy to sleep. :)

Cruiser is healing nicely. His scar is very minimal, just a pink line running down his leg, no raised scar at all! Finally his hair is beginning to come in and we are having a hard time keeping him from jumping.
Here is a couple of pics of the spoiled goofball.

In the third pic, you can slightly make out the scar. He is such a leggy goofball!

Glad to hear that the healing is coming along nicely. How long before he is free to be a puppy again? I can't imagine having to keep Ruger calm and still!

He will be cleared for puppyhood somewhere around November 9th! He was jumping like a madman this am and was not happy when I took his toy away and told him to lie down! I will be so happy when the restrictions are over!
