Bring me the cheeseburger!

I think we have the basic retrieve idea down pretty good with things I throw or point to, so I decided to see if he could retrieve the cheeseburger without eating it lol. We did it 3x and he would have been successful all 3x if the thing didn't fall out of its wrapper. He almost changed his mind at the end hence you see the little tug of war!! LOL.

Great job! I mean, Hector's doing awesome, but the training time you put into him is so great. Your effort definitely shows.
Thank you Boxergirl!! At first it was really hard teaching him any complicated tricks. He's already a nervous dog, but he's also very sensitive so when he does something wrong and after being told no a few times, he stops trying and starts to shut down. Now, we are at a point where he is very eager to try things and work to chain tricks together. We are at an easy phase now. The hard part was teaching him how to learn. I should show you the new trick I taught him recently. When I ask him if he wants food, he'll run over to the food bin and punch it with his nose.

I'm truly amazed. It's a talent teaching...a really special gift.

Keep up the good work Hector. Maybe someday you'll surpass that Border Collie in England that understands 100's of commands, and can identify 100's of items from pictures and retrieves them when asked.

Oh lord we will never be!!! I don't even know if we can get our expert trick title (domorewithyourdog.com) online.

Me and my SO have been debating whether Ham would eat the whole thing, wrapper and all, in the process of learning such a trick. :p

Yes, if you just jump right into it! You have to build it up and get a reliable hold before you move onto a cheeseburger :p.

Yeah, that's what he said, and then he demonstrated Hamlet's talents by handing him an egg, which he DID hold, until he decided to drop it, much to the chihuahua's delight! lol

The hold is a very tough one in my opinion.

The most impressive thing Hamlet has ever retrieved for me was my underwear... after he sneaked into the bathroom to steal it in the first place.

Tell me your secrets for this crowd pleaser!
