blood in his stool!

Luna is on heat and even if we separated them, Jack has been very very stressed in the last 4 days. He doesn't eat (now he drinks water), panting and yelling and he's all over her crate if given half a chance, all the time. Now he had soft stool (not running, just softer than usual), with blood - red drops of blood, which probably comes from lower intestine... colitis? Can it be because he was so stressed? He has been dewormed so I don't suspect worms, he didn't change food and otherwise he's been ok before Luna's heat. Ah and I gave him my sausage 2 days ago but it can't be that bad because of a chicken sausage! I am not aware of him eating anything not suitable - he's a fussy eater anyway. He won't hide and eat something. I'd get him to vet right now but it's Easter holiday and I keep trying but it seems that i can't get anyone on the phone. :(It wasn't a huge amount of blood, just few drops, but i'm still very scared for him... Any advice would be really appreciated! :((

I bet it's stress related. Hector did not eat a regular meal for weeks when he smelled dogs in heat in the neighborhood and kept redirecting to the old dog. That is the main reason why I got him neutered. He lost 16 lbs in a month being that way...

I agree that it's likely stress related. Keep checking his poop and make note of the color, how much, and if there's any mucus just in case you want to check with a vet. Al has blood in his poo when change happens and his anxiety ramps up. His poo is softer then, usually no mucus, with small spots and streaks of bright red blood. We had Easter breakfast for 30 people yesterday, his girls came home and left again - today we have bloody poop. Too much going on for him. I bet it's the same for Jack. Just too much stress. Try not to worry too much. It sounds like you've got your hands full right now. Careful or you might have stress poo!

thank you - that's what the vet said as well (over the phone), that it's probably related to stress and to monitor him closely in the net 48 hours. He's over the worst part, not squeaking non stop anymore, but he's more clingy than usual (and he is a clingy dog!) He's glued to me wherever I go or whatever I do. He had some grumpy outbursts last night - barking at me - but they only took seconds, then he was very remorseful and put himself in time out. I feel so sorry for the poor boy. :-(( Now he looks depressed and tired. I tried calmex/lavender oil/vicks - to no avail. The bloody smell can't be diluted by anything! And while he's not coping anyway, Luna howls like a wolf every time he shuts up and tries to sleep!! It's like the damn bitch is doing it on purpose, because she doesn't have any problem while he cries out loud!

he tries to stop and go to sleep but every time he shuts up she starts howling and the drama starts again. As I said, it's like she's doing it on purpose!

She is doing it on purpose, it's instinctive. She can't help it, she needs to know where her mate is.

well she'd better give him a break - the "mate" is too young (and she's too young) to mate. Jack had his opportunity when he broke the enclosure, but even then he got the wrong end. When they'll be older then 2 we'll fix them all. I can't live in this drama every 3 months, and I don't want to kill Jack either!
