Be my eyes

I found a phone app that is awesome, It’s called “be my eyes”. It’s a free app for the blind and visually challenged to get help with everyday tasks from sighted volunteers. I signed up as a sighted volunteer 2 days ago and got my first “call” yesterday. It was AMAZING. I got a video call from a man, he said he needed help with his washer settings. So he showed me the washer and asked me to tell him where the spin cycle was. It was so simple and only took about 2 minutes. I just love the concept of this, such a simple way to help someone in need. Free for anyone to use but priceless for those who need it.

I wonder if the blind family on my blocks knows/uses this? I'll have to ask them...

I’m so happy you all found this interesting! I just love the idea :) Unfortunately I haven’t had a call since that second day.. I’ll have to be patient. I’m just so excited to keep helping but I’ve heard sometimes there is a long time between calls because of the huge number of volunteers, I suppose that’s a good thing though :p

"because of the huge number of volunteers."

Isn't that just the most heartening thing? Call me naive, but I think people really do want to help and do good things. I just think that they don't really know how. Not everyone has the time to volunteer after work or on days off. Things like this are just perfect. Thank you again for sharing.

That‘s a revolutionary idea. Also, it‘s great that there seems to be a huge community of volunteers. In this case, it‘s a gold thing that you don‘t receive frequent calls. It wouldn‘t be helpful if the demand was greater than the supply. I‘ll look into the app. Thanks for sharing.
