I was telling Cee Cee this story the other day.... just another example of how calm, but persistent CC's can be when something is wrong:

Well, my husband and I were upstairs, he was fixing my TV and I'd taken my laptop up to keep company with him. Bailey had gotten annoyed with us ruining her beauty sleep and had left the room. I thought she'd gone into the small bedroom. Sometime later she appeared at the bedroom door and was acting goofy...sort of, notice me. I said to my husband, maybe she needs out.

Bailey had her ears pulled into the side of her head and she was wiggling a little...sort of play with me or come with me. And she kept leading to the stairs and looking back at me. So, of course, I got up and followed her. When we got downstairs Bailey stopped at the kitchen doorway and turned around looking at me. I asked her "What?" But then, I saw it. And I yelled (poor Bailey, she tucked tail and ran to the couch...she thought I was mad at her.) Water was spreading across the tile floor from the water cooler and had almost reached the wood floors in the living room. I sprang into action throwing everything absorbant at it, all the time screaming for help. Jon came crashing down the stairs. I threw the living room snuggle blanket on it and tea towels and paper towels, but it kept coming.

Jon had just had surgery and wasn't supposed to lift anything up, but my step-son was in the rec room, I got him upstairs...we had to pull the "new" 5 gallon bottle out and get it to the sink. Oh, he got it up, then dropped it, breaking a big chunk out of it, and dumping another three gallons on the floor. At any rate: screaming aside and half the house bath towels employed, we won. Everything had to be pulled out of the room, of course, and the fridge pulled out, but at least the flood didn't get to the wood floors.

Now, sulking on the couch was a much abused Mastiff...so we desended on her with praise, affection and, of course, high value treats. If Bailey hadn't wiggled and pleaded coyly trying to get me downstairs, we wouldn't have known, and I'm sure we would have been forced to rip up the floor and maybe the ceiling in the rec-room. 5 gallons can do a lot of damage, and the ever so slight lean in the house would mean it would land in the living room and down through the flooring.

Jon had just had his son load the new bottle about 20 minutes before Bailey came to get me. He said everything seemed fine. THANK GOD, FOR STUBBORN, SMART MASTIFFS. Our Four Legged Flood Alarm System!

Great job, Bailey! I don‘t even want to imagine how much damage such an amount of water can cause to the house.

The wood floor in the living room was laid by a friend (not a stellar job) and it isn't as tight as it should be. I think it would warp beyond saving. (Maybe a blessing in disguise...rip it out and do it right.) Still, I'm amazed and happy that my little girl stepped in and warned us.

Mastiffs are the most wonderful creatures, and mine is always surprising me. She is such a blessing.
