Anyone keep reptiles?

Does anyone here keep reptiles? I might be picking up a Leopard Gecko or two in 3/4 weeks time and wanted to see if anyone here shared a love of reptiles. I much prefer snakes but my mum is terrified of them and you still can't go wrong with a little gecko.

Thanks,

Joe.

We have a very spoiled and bratty bearded dragon. We came close to getting a snake (an egg eating snake in particular), but got our corso puppy instead. Much better at cuddling, lol. I hear leopard geckos make really good little pets.

We have owned reptiles for over 30 yrs. We own 3 leopard geckos's ( my boys pets), I would say about 50 various breeds of poison dart frogs, pacman frog (my garbage disposal :) ) I don't know how many snakes he has in the basement and I don't want to know.( lord only knows what he is hiding down there from me lol ) we bred beardies for about 6 years. oh yeah and tarantulas not sure how many, 3 tortoises ( 1 Russian, 2 Sulcata's), veiled chameleon ( another of my son's pets) And I am sure I am forgetting more that is here. So yeah I kind of live in a zoo :)

Ah! I've got a bit of a soft spot for inverts. I don't mind tarantulas, but true spiders still give me the absolute creeps.

What are the leos like?

They are very low maintenance reps to keep. Dry cage, heat tape, mealworms and crickets for feed. They are usually very laid back if you get one from a baby and handle it regularly. They will arch their backs like a cat when you pet them.

Love it! How does he find you coming in from the top of the tank, does it spook him?

Not really, she's pretty much used to it by now unless she doesn't notice us coming. We come in and out of the top of her tank every day to feed or handle her. Her tank is on the same level with all the dogs and cats too, and she doesn't even pay attention to them anymore. The exception is a harlequin Dane we fostered. She lunged and barked at the glass a few times before realizing we wouldn't allow that. Almost a year after she was adopted by her new family, we dog sat her for a few days while her owners were out of town. As soon as our bearded dragon caught sight of the Dane, she puffed out her beard and turned black. She kept her eye on that dog the entire time she was here. Apparently she has a much better memory than I would have expected.

I love Beardies, they were one of my options till I realised I probably wouldn't have the floorspace but that's being sorted so we'll see,

I love Royals. I would of 100% gone for a snake but my mum is terrified of them so it isn't a possibility

The RTB is a male I picked up earlier this year. Roughly 4-4.5"

I had to rehome my 8.5" female earlier in the year. A co-workers husband took her in. Making his 4th boa over 8 foot. Lol. And I can Still go see her if I wanted. My little guy is actually one from a previous breeding project of his.

The burms and retics actually are very intimidating. A 10" + snake is pretty gnarly.

Even my old female was soooooo strong. And ima big ass guy.

I can't honestly say I'd want a snake that large again. Hence why I got a male this go round.

Yeah, I'd never have one of the giant snakes. Annies are the only snakes I'm actually intimidated by. My Dad, when I saw him, kept a Burm for a few months whilst a friend was working away and I fell in love with it, and funnily enough, with mastiffs as well. He had a huge female Dane.

Just saw this thread after posting my own! Throughout my life I've had red tail boa, various retics and burms, various monitors, corn snake, and a bearded dragon! Going into the military what I had left of my collection I sold/donated. Recently in October I now have a reptile again that I purchased at the Tinley, IL Reptile Expo! Bought a long time interest of mine which is the sunfire retic. Supposedly a dwarf and female but we'll see how it turns out. Definitely adding to my collection eventually in the future as one is never enough! There's a picture of her in my thread but it's a poor one overall to get a sense of the snake, but I'll update with more in the future and if she proves to be a "dwarf"! Great to see the posts so far of interest in reptiles, looking forward to converse more about them in the future(along with molasser breeds primarily in the other forums!)
