Anyone have any experience with Roman Cane Corso in PA?

I am aware of the hazards of spaying/neuter at an early age, like I said most don't advocate neuter or spaying before maturity but like you said it is important to weigh the pros and cons of each situation individually. That being said a lot of breeders if you plan to keep the dog intact will either charge more, with the potential of it being a breeding dog or they will only sell it on a co-own.
Many of the studies I linked to found that spaying after maturity still increases the risk of various health problems and reduces lifespan. Though females do actually get some benefits from spaying, so I can understand deciding to do so. Stormy Winns charges more for breeder quality pups, they're one of the few I've found who even give that option for non-show quality pups. I'll have to check on Roman, as they don't have anything about contracts on their website.

So my question is what type of dog are you interested in besides not having to spay neuter. I am asking because you seem to have chosen 2 very different kennels as far as type is concerned. Although I have not had any personal interaction with Stormy Winns, I have had some great experiences with dogs with Rooster in their pedigree ;)

As I said, mostly looking for stable temperament and protectiveness, preferably a bit aloof with strangers, and working potential would be a plus. Not sure what you mean by type, but I prefer the look of Roman's dogs, though I'm somewhat flexible with appearance.

In case anyone is curious, I contacted Roman Cane Corso about his pricing and contracts. He said he bases his dogs value on his bloodline, not the quality of the individual dogs, so he doesn't grade his puppies. They're all $3,500:thud: except first pick is extra, he didn't say how much more. As far as I can tell, the only titles or awards most of his current breeding stock has are CGC. He never did give me any contract details. Looks like jcook was right about him being about the money. Guess I'll take another look at Stormy Winns. I do like Appalachian's dogs, but I'm assuming they have a spay/neuter contract, probably contact them as well.

are you opposed to having a pup shipped to you?? castleguard is another good breeder, and I dont think they have a spay/neuter contract (for breed/show quality). I actually think that they void their health guarantee if you fix a dog before 14 months. I am not 100% sure though.

Castleguard has a spay/neuter contract but it is for a mature dog. I don't think the OP wants to spay/neuter at all so that might not work for him. I think you should contact the ones you are interested in and explain that after extensive research you prefer not to spay/neuter and ask if they are willing to work with you on that. There are somethat will, their only catch might be the co-own the dog with you, that way if an oops should happen then they have to be contacted to register any puppies. (I don't see this happening with you as you seem to be more about health which is fine OP but you would not believe the people that call saying this in regards to a pet but then when you say that is fine you will co-own the dog (explaining that that means if the dog should ever be bred the puppies can't be registered as purebreds without your signature) how pissed they get, a lot see it as a way around paying for a breed/show quality dog)

I agree that he should call and explain what his thoughts are on spay/neuter. I was just thinking that he could really open up some more options by considering shipping a puppy or even flying to get one (not sure if op has time and money for that, but it's an option nonetheless). I was trying to find a breeder in San Diego area and I just didnt feel 100% confident in any, that is when I decided to look outside of San Diego and just travel to get a pup or have one shipped.

I might be willing to have a puppy shipped, though obviously I would prefer to check out the breeder in person. Since Cane Corsos seem to be becoming somewhat popular in Schutzhund clubs I thought finding a breeder with working lines would be a bit easier. I did find Body Guard Cane Corso, don't have much info on their site though, and can't come up with much about them, hopefully they're still around.

hi, dont know if im too late with this information or not but I recently bought a dog from Roman. she is a blue brindle female, pick of the litter.......I know costly right? She seems to be a great dog and my hopes are that this extra money bought me a dog that is reallyof good stable temperament. sofar it has been that way but she is only 10 weeks so far. the feeling I got from visiting Marty and gensens kennels are that the dogs are very sweet and mellow. I don't know if these are the dogs you are looking for seeing as protectiveness isn't the main Roman claim to fame but as far as I could tell the dogs there looked great and were very stable, and other than appearance obviously they did not seem threatening.

Bodyguard Cane Corso is in PA. Mufasa (grand sire to my Gannicus) was 1st SCH 3 Corso in US. There may be 1 male left from his litter.

i know this post is old but if you have not bought your Cane Corso yet then i would highly recommend Roman Cane Corso as my breeder, especially if you have children or children will be coming to your house. I have 4 children ages 11, twin 9 year olds and a 4 year old. i researched the hell out of the breeders and narrowed it down to them. Yes they are a lot priceyer then the other breeders but well worth the money. I bought a dog from them in January 2013, so my boy is only 7 months old, still very young. But my 4 year old can literally do anything to him, with out a peep out of him. i can take him anywhere with me Parks, social events with people and other dogs everywhere and all he wants to do is play and kiss evertone. But do not try and come into my yard unannounced. You will not be greeted with a kiss.
I did not deal with Marty at all i dealt with his wife Gensen and she was extremely helpful through the whole process and still is today every time i call for information. My dog is a male out of the Fiona and Buccelli litter. Give them a visit you will not be sorry. Hope this helps

i went through castleguard and had a great experience, there was one person mention in someones post who i will never go too. This was my first time purchasing a puppy, and when i was asking him questions he made me feel like a idiot. Castleguard was great with answering my questions and helped me. I did have to sign the contract for spaying my girl, which i havent done yet, but im ok with that. If down the road you decided to breed you basically jsut pay the difference. If i understood the contract right. If you would like any info on my experience PM me.

My boy is from Appalachian. He has a great temperament and they do breed for it. In terms of protectiveness, I am not sure he is overly protective. He seems relaxed when I am around, but my wife has noticed protective traits when it is just her and our daughter. I make a point to socialize him as much as I can because he does go to work with me and meets strangers regularly. He is 2 and turning into a great dog. Still some work to do though.

Who is your boy out of? Lola just had a litter with my girls littermate :) Appalachian has some nice looking dogs.

FCastle,

I have a 8 month old from Stormy Winns. I was impressed with the owners (Neesey) knowledge of the breed, the conditions of her kennels, and her breeding stock. As far as temperament is concerned I can tell you my guy is a very dominant boy and at 4 months was using the big dog bark to let people know he was there. That being said, he is very social and has been great with the neighbor kids. Her rates sound a little more reasonable than what others have mentioned on this thread. Full disclosure though is I do not believe Neesey is showing dogs anymore. For me that wasn't much of an issue for some it can make all the difference. Here are a couple pics of Nash at 7 months.

I too bought my Lexi from Roman Cane Corso back in March 2013. I also dealt with his wife Gensen, who was most helpful. We talked on the phone and she was very prompt in answering my emails. Hubby & I went to their home and met all of their dogs. We put a deposit down on the pick of the first female of the litter. Since escrow on our home didn't go through, we had to push getting a puppy back to a later date. Gensen was great, she applied my deposit to another litter (again first pick)... when we went to pick up our 8 week old girl, Gensen was great in explaining everything we needed. Marty came in but wasn't very talkative, which was fine b/c we hadn't been dealing with him anyway.

Meanwhile 6 mos. later, Lexi is a wonderful dog. We have a very energetic special needs 8 year old, and Lexi is very gentle with him. Our daughter chases Lexi, screams in her face and Lexi is very patient with her. We recently had family over w 1 year old twins and another 1 year old baby. Lexi was great with them... it was almost as if she knew she couldn't play with the little ones the way she did with the adults. They loved sleeping in her bed next to Lexi and she would just lick them. We absolutely love Lexi's temperment. She is easily trained (we got her out of the nipping phase quickly and when we put our hands in her food, she backs up and sits until we clap for her to eat).

She's now starting to bark at everything that moves, so we are dealing with that. But all in all we are very happy with our purchase from Roman Cane Corso.

I am also looking for reputable breeders to purchase my first CC. I love the look of Roman Cane Corso's dogs. I also inquired with Gensen at Roman's CC. She was very helpful on the phone and we spoke for nearly a hour about her dogs and bloodlines. I am leaning towards them as well, especially after reading all your positive posts about Roman.
