Anyone ever stud your EM out? I know nothing about this.

My Diesel is such a good looking EM, that I think we could easily stud him out. I just don't know anything about this. How much to charge, dangers, liabilities, etc. He is registered and has a great family tree. Anyone ever done this? Thanks.

I only know what I have read about. There is a lot to it if you want to be responsible. If you search around on Google you can find the answers you're asking, I'll try to go from memory.

Ask yourself what you're looking to get out of it. Do you think you'll be bettering the breed, making money, or getting a future pup out of the litter?
Just because your stud has a great pedigree, what has he done? Is he tested to be free of "defects"? Will you make sure the dog he's going to be bred with will be tested for them?

If your just wanting money, I've seen the price for studding go from what one of the puppies would sell for, up to twice as much if the stud is of serious quality and background. Or you could ask for a pup from the upcoming litter.

These are only answers as I remember reading about it, no opinion on my part.

In order to responsibly stud out your male you would need to at least do the health tests, ie- Hips OFA or Pennhip and elbows. Would be better to do his eyes, heart and thyroid as well. Showing him and getting his CH would be preferable, a temperament test like CGC as well.
The reason people breed is to improve the breed, to fix the faults in their dogs, as all dogs have faults.
You need to study the standard and understand what females would compliment your male or visa versa.
I would contact your breeder and talk to them about it, see what they say and if they are wanting to use him in their program.
That is my 2 cents

Thank you. That's what I was thinking also. We're definitely not looking to do this as a "job", just maybe some extra cash. I appreciate your quick response. I was really curious to see what people would have to say about the subject.

To be honest, to do it correctly, chances are you will spend more money then you could possibly make studding him out.
Once you add the costs of the testing, showing, handling fees, training...
Breeding is not really a profitable endeavor...
