Another dose of boxer puppy breath

Otis is 13 weeks old now. Using positive methods and clicker training he already knows sit, down, wait, box, watch, park (pee/poo), break, and place. He will wait while we dump his food on the floor and spread it out. He will wait to cross the threshold of the door until released. Of course he has to be reminded every time, but he does have a little puppy brain. He knows that sitting and being calm get him good things, so sit is his default behavior. He still has his brat moments where he turns into a land shark, but he's learning.

I've been very surprised, and grateful, for how many business are willing to allow us to bring him in as a service dog in training. They don't have to allow that, but most all of them do.

I really shouldn't look at puppy pictures because it makes me want one, but if you promise to keep the puppy pictures coming, I will content myself with that. He is so-o-o-o cute. You are
so-o-o-o lucky. I love his "rally stripe" on his nose. So kissable. And, apparently, he's and Einstein. Of course, maybe it's because you are such a great trainer or you have the patience of Job.

I just realized that I haven't posted any pictures of Otis in forever. He's ten and a half months old now and every bit the teenager. Right now he's doing two training classes a week, both focusing on ... focus. One is called Unleashed. It centers on focus with distractions and helping your dog make good choices. It's tailored to each individual dog's needs and class size is small. I really like the trainers and the facility and have learned some little tips and tricks that I'd never heard of before. As far as his service dog training, he's doing excellent. He has a natural affinity to by a psychiatric service animal and is already offering deep pressure therapy when necessary. He's also learning how to alert to the sound of the continuous glucose monitor alarm that signals a high or a low and how to hold and carry items. His biggest problem is that he can't be crated and he has the most awful separation anxiety where my daughter is concerned. I guess that's both a good and a bad thing. It makes him super in tune with her so he makes the perfect service dog for all of her needs, but it also distresses him almost to panic when he can't see her.

The attention he's showing her in the pictures is something that she's worked on from the time she brought him home. It's no longer just because she has a treat in her hand. He offers it himself.

He did excellent here. That man kept staring in a confrontational manner everywhere we went and Otis was distrustful of him. Some people just don't want to see a dog in a store. October 2017 063.JPG October 2017 066.JPG

He has the best leave it for a young dog. He shows it off in class all the time. He's also super food motivated, so this was a huge thing.

This is my favorite picture. Not just because of the look on her face, but because of that huge drool rope Otis is sporting. Also note the dried slobber all over her leggings. Otis has been taught to check, which is to poke her with his muzzle. It makes it difficult to wear any nice clothes. Lol.October 2017 096.JPG Otis.jpg
