you see i have a litter of three week old Neopolitan Mastiff pups. i have a 4 page packet for potiental owners to fill out. People says i am crazy to do that. Excuse me for wanting them to go to good homes. I am selling them for $1500. there are questions, you have to give me at least 5 refernces, do you know anything about the Mastiff breed, who is your vet? do you think i am crazy for doing this? they will not be going anywhere until they are at least 12 weeks old.

Any responsible breeder would have an extensive questionnaire for potential new owners, as well as a contract with health guarantees as well as a stipulation that if, for any reason the new owner cannot keep the dog, it is to be returned to the breeder.

Hmm, so, they have about 12 weeks to fill out only four pages? Piece of cake! If it's too much trouble to fill out four pieces of paper, imagine how much work a puppy will be!

If I were ever to become a breeder, I'm pretty sure it's going to take a personal reference from God in order to get a pup from me.

I figure if Kharma doesn't eat you, you're probably okay, lol! It may turn out that Bimmer's harder to get past though.

Or he may remember what Buffy and Kharma and Shiva were like as puppies and carry them out to the street to give them away :lolbangtable:

No you are not crazy:DI understand.12 weeks is a long time
I have my dogs get up when they were 7 weeks.
This was for me important to socialize. You now, with kids and other dogs .

i also am looking to keep one as a show dog. both parents are Champions and both bloodlines are excellent. The mother's grandfather was the top-winning Neopolitan Mastiff of all time. i have 8 of them. there would have been 9 but the last one was a water baby or retained too much fluid and did not survive.

I don't think it is crazy at all. If people want your pup, they will go through what it takes to get one from you, its as simple as that really. :)

As for the 12 weeks of age...I didn't bring Uallis home until he was 10 weeks old. Everyone kept telling me that "he's too old"...hahaha He was one of the best "behaved" puppies I've ever had or seen...some of that is just his laid back temperament but some of it, I'm convinced is because he had those extra few weeks for his Mama to "teach him his manners". :) So keeping a pup between 10-12 weeks old...isn't crazy to me in the least but rather a HUGE plus! :D As a matter of fact, in the future when I buy my next Mastiff...I'll immediately rule out breeders who DON'T keep their pups that long. The only time, I'll get a dog younger than 10 weeks is if its a shelter pup or a stray, of course.

Is that the test I will have to pass?

Just kidding. :razzberry:

And Purple is right. If they cannot be bothered with the time and effort it takes to fill out 4 peices of paper, then they cannot be bothered with a puppy.

See thats why I couldnt ever be a breeder of any kind of animal.... I would never feel confident enough that the people are going to take care of them as well or better as I do... lol
