Allergies to dog food?

Hello, I have a Cand Corso Boerboel mix that is 10 months old. He recently has started to lose hair.. Not dramatically but slowly. I thought at first it was just rubbed off from him squeezing himself out of his crate while he was making one of his great escapes, but we haven't put him back in the crate since then and it has been about 2 weeks now and it's only getting worse. It started on the side of his face and now it's going down the sides of his neck as well as his fore head. I know when he is about to lose hair because it looks like tiny little bumps like his hair raising, and then it is gone.

I will have to post a picture of him in the morning for better understanding but the best way to describe it is like little wholes in his fur..

I was thinking that mYbe he is allergic to the chicken and rice food I have been feeding him but finding food that agrees with his stomach has also been a struggle. When he was 4 months we feed him ACana but only gave him the runs and made him lose weight. I mean he couldn't hold anything in.. Does anyone know of any dry dog food that may be easy on sensitive stomachs and allergies??? Diesel is about 110 lbs but maybe a little on the skinny side. I just want him to be healthy, I know he has a lot more growing to do.

He may be allergic to chicken. He may have a low thyroid problem. He may have a mite problem. You should have a vet look at him and get his thyroid checked or do a skin scrape if changing foods doesn't help.

I put my girls on Earthborn holistic meadow feast and their stools have gotten significantly better. It's main ingredient is lamb I think but it's grain free and no chicken.

My younger CC girl is allergic to chicken products in dry foods and treats but can tolerate boiled chicken.
I feed both my CC girls lamb and brown rice large breed Nutro.

Thank you everyone you have been helpful.
@Hector I don't think he has Mites because I was afraid of that but I have a Golden Retriever as well and he doesn't have any hair loss and he has a much more tolerable stomach and has been on chicken his whole life that's why I believe it's got to be his food.

I'm going to try a more Holistic food brand and see if that helps at all. I have just been hesitant after trying ACana which I Think had far too much Protein in it for Diesle to handLe. Has anyone heard of Fromm Gold Holistic Dog food?

I would check out dogfoodreviews.com (I was given this site from the forum previously) and stick to anything 4 stars or above.

Sounds like demodex ( demodectic mange) typically starts on the face and head, then neck, then body. I believe like 90% of dogs carry the mite that causes it but only some are sensitive to it which would explain your retriever not being effected, but I could be wrong

I had a Newfy bitch who was allergic to chicken and the first I noticed it was when she would rub her face along the fence out side or along the rug inside after she ate. She started to wear the hair off her face. Changed the food and no more problems.

IMO make an appointment with your vet soon - way to many possibilities to try and diagnosis. Could be an allergy, staff, demodex, insect bites, change in hormones any number of things.
