Allergic reaction, ears puffy and painful.

Yesterday late afternoon I went to fondle Abby's ear and it was puffy and painful, found no wounds nothing smelled so I checked the other ear and it was worse.
I figured it was an allergic reaction so I gave her Benadryl and tok her to the vet this morning.
Vet figured probably allergic reaction to something and she got 3 shots. Took them like a champ even though she was very nervous. Vet sent home antihistamine and tranquilizer in case she started shaking her head which she does only occasionally. She did puke some grass up Friday morning so not sure what she got into also she chewed up a TV remote which she hasn't done in about a year.

Hope she feels better soon... do you have deadly nightshade where you are?

This is the time of year when the berries are maturing, at least where I live. Had a rescue Rottie years ago come up with some very bizarre symptoms (including swollen ears) and we finally concluded she'd been into the nightshade. She was a sort of retarded dog who chewed weird things

Put a pantyhose around her head to keep her from shaking her ears if you are worried about that. Cold compress helps too.

Poor girl.

My dogs almost always throw up after eating grass. I feel like they do it to make themselves throw up. It's not usually accompanied by any other symptoms and typically they are small throwups(grass mixed with clear stomach fluids), not like after eating a meal then throwing it up.

I hope the poor baby feels better soon.

Lou Lou is allergic to wasps, and they are nasty this time of year.

Poor Lu Lu!!
Happy to report that Abby seems to be back to normal this evening.
Swelling in her ears has almost completely gone away, and I can handle her ears with no pain.

Glad to hear it DDSK!

Pour Lu Lu =( I got stung in the face 2x among a whole bunch of other places all at once. My face looked like hers. Poor baby. I was slightly less drooly though.

Glad Abby has some relief. :)

I have to ask, since I get them mixed up, which one of your girls is Abby and which one is Zoey? Is Abby the light colored one?

I'm so happy that Abby is feeling better. I agree, they are very delicate for being such big dogs. They seem susceptible to everything!
