I have one cat that darts out right away and one that does this. She sits in the door and cries until I open it, then sits there staring at me, sniffing the outdoors. I will hold that door forever.

I'm shaking my head..
It's true.
I feed my cat in the kid's bedroom so Junior doesn't eat it. When the cat, Bristol, is done eating she'll meow and scratch at the door (and the freaking carpet) to get out. So I'll open the door, and she stands there... Sniffing the door jam.. So I get impatient and close the door, and she meows and claws some more, so I'll open it... and she sniffs the door jam and sits there, staring at me. GET THE F OUT ALREADY!!

I don't have this problem anymore. Several months ago I was in our basement getting food from the freezer to prepare
for dinner the next day. Unbeknownst to me, our Snowshoe followed me. I also opened the entry door.
mind you all of this was done in the dark. The only lights on were from the refrigerator / freezer. Well,
after I finished gathering food items, I closed the door never realizing that the cat was locked between
the storm and entry doors. It wasn't discovered until hubby was leaving to take our 8 year to school.
When hubby opened the door he ran in like a bat out of hell. He will still follow me to the door, but keeps a safe distance from the door. In return, I turn on the lights in basement when I'm looking in the freezer for food. I should have known he followed me as always follows me everywhere...even to the br.
