Some background on our Akita/Cane Corso mix. We think she is the best dog ever and so does she.
==================
We have a Cane Corso Akita mix. Female. She came from a breeder near DC. She was born in November of 2012 and was one of several pups (maybe 6). In the picture she is about 7 months old and 70 lbs. In the video, she is younger. Her name is Ashley.
As an adult, Ashley weighs about 90 lbs and is amazingly strong. Our neighbor got Ashley at 6 weeks old and gave her to us at 7 weeks. They were concerned about what she would grow into. We have put in the time to make her as social as she can be given the breed. We had her in puppy class from 8 weeks old until about 6 months. Then she went to agility training. She won her class and beat all of the smaller dogs. That being said, a woman ran from her at her first agility class because she was afraid of our dog. In general, Ashley is great with kids and women. Certain men she does not like and can be a handful to control. She is the nicest, sweetest dog with grand moms and very very gentile. She also is a very good dog hanging out with my son's soccer team and boy scout troop. Her trainer's comment is that she is a very complex dog which given the breads may be expected. Highly intelligent but just because she knows what you want her to do, does not mean she will do it.
She is a very athletic dog. We have a 5 foot fence which she can clear. We are replacing it with a 6 or 7 foot fence that should contain her. Whenever she is not in fenced yard, she has to be on a leash. On the few occasions when she has gotten out, she will not come back until she is ready. Very head strong.
A couple of observations about our mixed breed: She grew up and mellowed very quickly. She potty trained very fast. I could leave her unattended in our house for periods of time even as a puppy. As an adult she is happy to sleep by me while I work from my home office.
We got her a playmate when she as a year and a half. A male pure bred lab. The lab was 8 weeks old when we got him. I took videos of the two interacting and playing soon after getting the lab and showed our vet. The vet commented that Ashley could not be a better mom. We are very fortunate to have found her a compatible buddy. No food competition at all except for when the lab will occasionally steals one of her treats. When he does that she does not seem to care at all. When we board them, they stay in the same room. She embraced being a mom.
