Adopting a mature English Mastif into a Corso household

I'm new to the site but not new to the breed. My wife and I have had the pleasure of owning OEMs before. Our last boy passed away peacefully about a year and a half ago. About 6 months ago we adopted a 3 year old, neutered, Cane Corso. He has proven to be a great fit for us...smart, affectionate and great with our 3 yr old Grandson.
We are considering adopting a 5 year old OEM from a co-worker of my wife's. Her marital and living circumstances have changed and she can no longer keep the dog. We had an initial dog meeting in a neutral location and for the most part it was uneventful. Both dogs were aloof but our Corso began to show some signs of aggression towards the Mastiff. Some growling and a couple of snaps. The Mastiff didn't retaliate and just backed away. I had a feeling that in our excitement we may have tried to rush the introduction.

My wife and I are planning a weekend walk with both dogs and without the Mastiff owner. We will keep them leashed and try a more gradual introduction in the hope that the dogs will feel more comfortable with each other. If the walk goes well we are planning on taking the OEM overnight in our home. We will keep the 2 dogs separated, establish boundaries ( gates ) and remove any potential agression triggers like favourite toys and treats.

I should point out that there is a time frame for the adoption. The Mastiff owner needs to find a home for her boy before the 25th of July.

My question is: Are we moving too fast with bringing the new dog home after only 2 meetings. Does anyone have any personal insight into bringing these 2 breeds together in an adoption scenario? Our Corso hasn't had an issue with other dogs being in our home but never anything as big as an OEM.
