Hello
This is the first time I post here and I have a few questions about a fila ( Thas what they told me ) I adopted from Craigslist six months ago.
I found the add saying they were giving away two purebred fila brasileiro sand I decided to come see them; by the time I got there the male was the only one left. He was so skinny and I felt so bad for him so I took him home.
They had the mother and she was huge !! I didn't see the father but they told me he was even bigger; I also met the brother who was about a year old. The brother looked exavtly like the puppy I got.
I do love my dog and he is the best dog ever smart, so sweet and somewhat dominant but now at almost nine months old I do not see those characteristics they say about the filas ( ojeriza) he is not friendly and wouldn't let others to touch him but he always goes to people smells them and turns away is thag normal? I must say I took him everywhere from the first day and I always have people to visit me maybe that's the reason he isn't so protective as they told me e would be . The brother was friendly when I came to get the puppy and he was a year I guess they r friendly filas but he was huge and purebred for sure .
Now I am starting to think my fila isn't really purebred cause he isn't so big he is almost nine months 75 pounds and close to 23 to 24 inches tall is thag the real SiE for his age? He does not have those hanging lips however his neck is hanging and he his hips r high like a fila; he also drools a lot walks like a fila and his eyes have that sad look.
I calls the lady again she said he is a pure fila I just was not too sure cause his size and he isn't too aggresive .
I could try to post some photos I would like some feedback or opinions Pls
Thank U

Yes he looks like a fila somehow I was just worry about his size he seems small to me
Around 23 inches and 75 pounds at eight months. He isn't aggresive at all but he is being socialized since i got him ; he does not trust strangers and nobody can really come close to my car he would get really aggresive I guess In that sense e is a fila.

I am so glad I adopted him or took him from this lady cause she was givin them for free ; imagine what could have happened to them if someone irresponsible took him.

He does look Fila-ish I however don't see much if any jowles (lips)
He is a good looking dog no matter what breed he is.

Sounds pretty normal for a 9 month old Fila. Socializing will not take away their ojeriza or their temperament. As long as he is allowing it keep on doing it. However, don't force anything. Socializing builds confidence it doesn't make them friendly.

You don't have a pedigree?

I don't think that your dog is a pure bred Fila Brasileiro, but I am not an expert

A lot of mastiffs/dogs have the characteristics that you describe: drool, sad look, curious about strangers, but doesn't want direct interactions from them, territorial about things, etc. Just because he "isn't too aggressive" now doesn't mean he won't mature into a very aggressive dog. It also doesn't mean that he will. Just remember that any dog can be aggressive. Smelling and turning away is good. Not smelling and reacting is bad and I'm just saying this in general. Make sure you don't let people overwhelm your dog by forcing any physical interactions otherwise the dog may start using defensive mechanisms to keep them away/off of him and you really don't want that problem.

The dog looks like he has fur that's longer than what a fila usually has. I'm not sure. It's kind of hard to tell from the pictures.

I'm interested in clearer pictures and he's a nice looking dog.
