Sorry, somehow submitted before I got a chance to finish. Anyways, my buddy breeds french Bulldogs and offered a first pick from his litter to keep as a stud. Anyone have any experience with this combo.
Knox is very well behaved but tends to get very excited during play and has this thing abt body checking and tackling other dogs to the ground. Is that how everyone else's mastiff plays as well? Not sure if it's a breed thing or something he picked up from me always wrestling with him pinning him down. He plays fine with the puppies dad, but the dad is not as small and fragile as the new puppy. My main concern would be the size difference.
Btw, for those that don't know, knox is a 1yo bullmastiff weighing in abt 110 lbs. I haven't chked his weight since I last took him for his bath last month at 11mo, but plan on doing so over the weekend since his birthday will be on 4/20 so will have an updated weight. Can't expect it could of gone up by much. Starting to wonder if he may be on the smaller side after hearing all these members with their 1yo all weighing in at least 120+.
Love to hear abt any experience anyone may have had with this combo. I don't think it would be too rare of a combo, both being bully breeds and all. That and any advice anyone may have abt making a smooth intro for the two. Thanks! Here are some pics of knox during his birthday month.

Knox looks good Great looking face and head! I don't have a answer to your question about the combo.
My Major plays rough and will knock down other dogs and play maul them, most smaller dogs won't play with him. Bigger dogs will roll with it and he gives and takes, loves to play.

I have two corsos, one over a year one under, they play with my 8lb cat and have never hurt her, however she has the ability to jump away if she feels she needs to get away. It will be more up to how you train them and strong supervision of their play, I've know many people with great combos of large and small dogs. Growing up my uncle raised English mastiffs, they tended to be around 200lb dogs, he also always had a dachshund at all times and they were always the best of friends, but the only way they played was basically the dachshund running around and jumping on the big dogs and them rolling around and knocking him over with their tongues

Thanks for the kind words. I'm very proud of my boy and he tends to turn heads everywhere we go. Never thought size was an Issue with him until I hear of all these pups at arnd 1yo all coming in at 120+. Jus wondering if anyone thought this maybe on the smaller size for his age. His parents were both 150+ with his dad wring in at 165 at 18mo.
How you described he way your major plays, sounds a lot like how my knox plays. Not many mastiffs in my area and so I can't compare the way he plays is normal for the breed or a bad habit he got from me pinning him dwn al the time when we play. my neighbors have even pointed out that they never see any other dog play like that. You'd think the other dog is being bother by being pushed arnd tackled and held dwn, but as soon as I tell him NO and pull him off, the other dog lures him in as though he wants to continue playing.
The dogs I'm referring to are a 120lb chocolate English lab and 90lb German Shepard. Both males that he's known sinc puppies so they tend to tolerate more from each other.
My buddy with the frenchies, has a male that he keeps that knox plays with all the time, same way, the frenchie will run arnd him while knox tris to push him over and hold him dwn with his mouth over his head. He never presses dwn, it's like he knows exactly how rough to be with him. My concern is that a simple push my end up him crushing him. I know I'll have to keep them separated for a while until he gets to a safer size for knox.

Lol abt knocking them over with their tongue. I wld love to have two mastiffs, something I have yet to convince my wife to let me do. The frenchie is being given to us and something she sees that she'll have a closer connection to since knox follows me everywhere and makes her a little jealous.
I know for the most part, knox will be well behaved, jus concerned that when he gets excited he doesn't accidentally crush the pupoy with his massive paws. Being that he's still a puppy and all and totally acts like one. I know I'll have to have a close watch over them both until he gets to a safer size.
He plays with small dogs all the time. Usually jus a game of chase. Those small dogs to seem to run a whole lot faster than my boy does. When I see it, I swear the small dogs are running for their lives, but as soon as knox wears dwn, the dogs come back luring him to chase them some more. Such cocky little dogs.

Ya my guys never play with smaller dogs, but it's usually because the small dogs are so poorly behaved that I don't trust them, plus the last thing in the worlds either of my dogs wants is a little dog yipping in their face. One time at a pet store a lady had some kind of tiny dog on a retractable leash, she let it come charging at my female barking it's head off, when it got too close for comfort Lorde lifted her paw put it on the dogs head and just pushed it away, the lady was mortified and I was laughing so hard the only words I could get out were, "maybe you should lock that leash a bit shorter in public" I honestly didn't hear a word she was trying to say once she tried to tell me my dog was in the wrong

I was worried when we brought home a puppy with our full. Grown CC about the rough play.
We had to keep close supervision on play, Zoey learned not to be rough with the baby, so much so that even when Abby grew up Zoey was reluctant to rough house with her for a long time and poor zoey was getting her ass whipped.
Eventually Zoey realized she could get tougher.
I have friends with big dogs and Frenchies and the Frenchy usually ends up ruling the roost lol.

We have canine kids that range in size from a 4 lbs Chi, to 50 lb boxer to the continuously growing in his sleep 120+ EM. From day 1 we have kept a very close eye when they play together. The Chi is the instigator of most problems since she thinks she is bigger than she really is. One good swipe of a paw or misplaced sit and she'd break.:scared2:

Angus (EM) has learned the "gentle" command very well and is good about being careful MOST of the time. However when the zoomies hit all bets are off! Even with that we do not leave them uncrated without constant supervision.

Well here he is, after a 5hr car ride from LA to bring him back home up north to the Bay Area, He's finally home with his big brother knox.
Even though the only intro they've had is me holding Cash to let knox get a good look over. I figured it was best for them to formally meet after I get his puppy Chk and make sure he's all well before bringing him arnd knox.

If I were going to have a small dog, I'd have a Frenchie. Love, love, love their little gargoyle faces. I've heard there's a lot of attitude in their little bodies. I hope you post lots of pictures.

Whenever I introduced a new pup to any of my Newfys, the dogs were taught to lie down or they could not play with the little one. They seemed to understand fairly quickly and of course they were never left unsupervised. You should be in for some fun!

Gorgeous pup!

If we ever get another dog while we have Murphy, it will be a Frenchie. I can't resist their little wrinkly faces and those big bat ears. Blue or grey Frenchies are my favourites.

oh man, that picture is awesome! Frenchies are cool. I for sure would take one if given to me, haha!

I have had very good luck keeping super-large dogs around smaller breeds and also puppies. Most of the dogs I have had were actually instinctively gentle with young pups especially. Occasionally you will get a puppy that gets "too big for its britches" and an adult dog will smack it or try to discipline it. They usually work things out rather well in my experience.

I'm no good at posting pics, but somewhere on my hard drive I have pics of my 105 lb Cane Corso playing with a 12 lb young french bulldog. They would play together for hours with no ill effects. Of course, all dogs are individuals and your results may vary.

I do hope you continue to post more pics and videos! Also, congrats on the new addition to the pack!

Luckily I think my two dogs are the same. Knox the bullmastiff is very tolerant of Cash the frenchie and makes it very aware when he's had enough. You'll see in this video. Lol
