  • Welcome back!

We decided to spruce things up and fix some things under the hood. If you notice any issues, feel free to contact us as we're sure there are a few things here or there that we might have missed in our upgrade.

Hope everyone is having a great day. Posted my introduction about Addee a week or so ago and just wanted to provide an update. We have been getting out for walks twice a day, except on the days when the temp has been in the single digits (feel free to call me a wimp). We are continuing to work on things and she is showing me that she is very smart and the previous owner had at least done some work with her. Decided to take her back for a visit to see some of the folks at the rescuee this past weekend to show her off and get her weighed. When I got her she weight 76.7 lbs. and after some convincing got her on the scale and she weighed 86.9 lbs. A gain of 10 lbs. in 2 weeks, a good sign in my opinion. She did well interacting with all the dogs, but did try to dominate one of the neutered males. Things are still going well, but on Tuesday this week she decided it had been long enough and she needed to start testing the bounds of the house rules. Not listening the way she had been, lunging and trying to bite, all the things that have been talked about many times on the board. Not that we were advanced, but I have gone back to the basics. She had the freedom of the house while I was there, but now she stays on leash inside and out. Have been doing lots of reading and hope this doesn't last too long. We'll get through it either way, though.

Great job going back to basics. I would suggest you also read up on NILF (nothing in life is free). That may help also.

Exactly what you should be doing...remember this, and it helps us as owners take responsibility, when a dog starts "acting up" it's not the dog's fault. It's our fault for getting comfortable and not holding strong to the rules, boundaries and limitations we established early on or it's our fault because we didn't establish anything to begin with and now are "at a loss" as to why our precious dog is acting like a devil. Good job and keep up the work. Your dog will appreciate it.

Agree completely. In this case I didn't establish rules/boundaries because it didn't appear necessary. In other words, thought they were already understood. I will get her working in the right direction, so that we will all be happy together.

A lot of times the dogs (kids too) know exactly what's expected. They are seeing what works for them. If not holding true to your standards the dogs (and kids, shoot even adults) will do what works for them.
