  • Welcome back!

We decided to spruce things up and fix some things under the hood. If you notice any issues, feel free to contact us as we're sure there are a few things here or there that we might have missed in our upgrade.

a young corso and some sheep

Been a little while since I posted, losing Aurora to cancer certainly took a toll on me, needed a hiatus
Since my little monster turned 1 on March second I thought I would post some pictures of his Bday celebration. He has become a very cool dog, nothing phases him. We have started him in agility, no jumping but learning commands, he finished his level one of scent detection classes and we were invited to join a scent hurdle team which is a blast. He appears to be game for whatever I throw at him as a versatile dog should be, so for his Birthday we decided to see what he would do with some sheep :p

Great pics, love that serious stoic face. My girl is 14months and I can't wait to see how she does around some farm animals this year when it gets a bit nicer here

Is that Tuna?? He has sure grown! And seems to have lightened in color a bit. Handsome boy!

I didn't know about Aurora, sorry to hear, she was a beautiful girl.

Thank you. Yes is Tuna :) He has grown into quite the goofball. His coat has lightened it will some more I believe.
Thank you for your words on Aurora, it was quite devastating. Cancer always is. There hasn't been a day that has gone by that I haven't missed her presence.

So, is Tuna herding the sheep or deciding which one to eat later! He is very serious in those shots... like he's calculting the bone/meat/organ ratios!

Being herded by something almost as big as them!

thank you everyone. He was actually very good with the sheep, after being smacked a few times with the whip and leather. Which he of course thought at first was a flirt pole and attacked , I guess he is not a fan of being smacked with a leather shammy, who'da thunk :razzberry:. After that was figured out, he learned pretty quickly what was wanted of him. He didn't get too close but moved them well. They all really enjoyed his attitude and we have been invited back as they think he will do well in that sport.

I find Tuna's face is really wide and short, similar to Jackson's. Ajax still has a horse face. Hopefully his head will widen over time. Sheep herding seems fun. I don't think we have anything like that around here. I would like to see how he would do.

Lol, his muzzle is too short for my liking :) I love the little goober but he will never be a show dog, he is my fun dog  Ajax should still fill out. Blackjack is finally slowing down but his expression and head has changed a lot in the past year. All of a sudden he looks serious. 10849988_10152949983115450_7003108463622634167_n.jpgDSC01651.jpgDSC01485.jpg

Is Black Jack as dog aggressive as Lexi is? She wanted to rip Ajax to pieces when we visited.

Not even remotely.
Blackjack is very laid back when it comes to other dogs. All of my dogs are. Blackjack has no real interest in other dogs outside of his pack and a few close friends that we go out with. He will meet dogs, but after a sniff he wanders off.
I can bring dogs of all sizes into the house and both mine are fine, intact or altered.
The only time I have seen BJ stiffen was a intact male BM who started posturing, BJ stiffened as well and I was all over that and stopped it before anything could escalate.
Lexi is reactive. Is funny however, she was fine with Aurora and BJ. For 2 intact females her and Aurora did awesome together. That said Aurora was a dominant female with a very stable temperament who was used in training dogs with DA. We were just careful on how they were introduced. Sue sometimes gets nervous about Lexi which causes her to get more reactive, I have yelled at Sue about it before :p
How is Ajax?

Ajax is fine most of the time. From time to time, when he is excited, his playing escalates to jumping, growing and biting. He does it mostly with my husband, and he has marks on his arms to prove it. Rare with me, usually a sharp "ah" puts him back in his place. We did rally classes last year, and he did well, but his focus was not good enough for me. So we did competition obedience for a while. Back to rally this months. He is more focused, but still too interested in other dogs and his surroundings. We are working on it. The trainer keeps commenting on how good of a working dog he is. I don't feel ready for a trial yet. Maybe when he is less easily distracted. He has hit a dominant stage with other dogs. He would try to hump any dog, male or female, unless sharply told off by the other dog. If the other dog tries to run away, he would chase it and pin it down. I hope it passes and he becomes more social again.

I am pretty careful about who I socialize with and when with my boys though. I don't go to dog parks to let them run with strange dogs. We will walk through some dog parks here, if we are headed somewhere, like in the mountains. I let my dogs socialize with people I know and dogs we know in a controlled setting. I am very careful about watching my dogs with other dogs and reading the signs that are being passed by both. We tend to go to areas that there are not any strange dogs with dogs that we know. Neither react to other dogs, but having 2 intact males I worry more about other dogs reacting to them. Neither would start it, but I am well aware of who will finish it. Unless of course a small dog... for some reason all my dogs have had infinite patience with small dogs biting them in face.
Ajax is still young, easily distracted. Remember that mentally they don't mature until older at least 2 plus. Blackjack has mentally matured a lot within the past year and there is a huge difference in his personality, focus and demeanor. Ajax will rock OB! I am excited to watch for him.
