A question and a few pics

Hey All!

I had a question and a few pics!

Question: Does it make much of a difference whether you get your dog fixed between 18 months and 2 years? Just trying to decide when to make the dreaded appointment for Tony. He is over 18 months now, but will be two in March. Trying to figure out if I should do it over the winter or wait until the spring.

These are Mr. Man's holiday photos... The first is on Thanksgiving, you can see the faint remnants of squash on his ear. The second is him with his poppy on Remembrance Day. The third is his Christmas hat. He usually doesn't mind when I stick things on his head. But when I put this one on, I called him Miss Tony and laughed.... he didn't like that and I got the stink eye.

This is his "I know there is pizza on the counter, you aren't fooling me" look.

This is his reflective orange vest... so we can be seen in the dark. And orange for hunting season.

Our friend was over and posted this photo of him and Tony on Instagram. It makes Tony's head look giant.

My boyfriend took Tony's spot on the couch... but luckily when we bought Tony, we invested in the stackable model, so no worries!

A "then and now" ... sleeping on his bed when he was a baby, and now.

I Love Tony! He's so handsome...the blue/grey color is my favorite... It is amazing how fast they grow; I remember when you got him as a little pup... :)

I give him props for his ability to hold still when you put hats on him-- Mateo tends to shake them off right away, LOL.

so funny how they love to hang off their beds... zola always has her head in weird postitions lol... Im with you on the fixing thing 18 months or wait longer? Not sure if its different for the male dogs vs female..... zola is just at 18 months, but we were going to wait until her 2nd heat.... one of the vets got on us for not fixing her already so its hard to get accurate information locally from the vets here

All vets push for spay and neuter as early as possible regardless of the breed.
Ours Wanted us to to spay our female em before her first heat, but after some research we found its best to wait till after her second.
Our male I'm not sure if we're getting him fixed or not, but he's only 5 Months so we got some time to decide.
His temperament, and attitude are perfect. I've read that when they are fixed they change a bit, and we're not sure we want him to change at all.

Always had male so never had the mess of heat.
As far as my males in the past I've never neutered any of them and don't plan on it with Mouse.
(So far Never had any litters)

Love the pics! My fav is the hat with the stink eye!

Waiting to neuter, the longer the better.

Health Issues Linked to Spaying and Neutering Dogs

Haha yeah he was not happy about being a girl!! Thanks for the link!

No advice on the neutering issue; but he's soooooo cute! :)

Thank you :)

You are right, he grew sooo fast!
He usually shakes them off after a second or two, but usually holds still long enough for me to snap a pic.

It is weird! Tony always likes to have his head at a different level than his body. Either is head will be drooping off something or propped up on something.

Thanks! Luckily I haven't gotten any pressure from my vet to neuter him. I plan to do it, but just want to wait until it's the best time.

Thanks for sharing. Mine's a male too... super glad to not have to deal with heat!!

Tony has grown into such a good looking boy! Feel free to share pics anytime.

I agree with waiting until fully mature but I would do it as soon as possible once they have stopped growing.

Tony is an elegant and handsome boy..cant give advice on neutering...i do not believe in neutering for no critical reason.

Definitely wait. I always do, and I think it's the best decision. Large dogs like mastiffs need those horomones that are removed at spay/neuter to grow properly. Some people say their dog is fine after fixing them early, but I've seen and heard about cases where the dog could have been much better off if they waited until at least the two year mark. I have all my dogs done; if I do them, at the three year mark. I spayed my female at five, just because the "spay after her first and last litter" plan failed at four years. Haha. She had much more energy before the spay, but I chose to spay her for sheer convenience to her and myself, being as my male is a butt baby and I can't separate either of them due to that. Haha
Anywho. I'd wait until they are nearly or completely finished growing. I chose four; or wanted to, for my female because her line generally doesn't finish filling out until then.

Thanks, I am pretty fond of the little bugger! I think I will wait until he is over 2.

Thanks! I think he is very handsome... but I may be biased :)

Thanks for the info. I think I will wait until he is two and then revisit the idea. I will definitely be getting him fixed... I just don't want to do it too early!
