80-10-10 Raw Diet

The 80-10-10 is basically how I go about feed our boys. I am open to other suggestions... niklaus being 7 month old I have more concerns on being pretty balanced. I do find this a little more challenging w him being a large breed pup and the risks and issue that go w that. Are English blockhead is much easier and has had great success on the raw. R boy Niklaus as I have stated in other threads is experiencing some elbow issues which we r relentlessly working to get him back to 100 percent. We still r not certain if this is something he/we will heal w gd mangment or if it's going to be possibly a long expensive road ahead. Again we try to follow the 80 1 10 rule of thumb but r not exact every day with this, so 8 am looking for in site on if that is crucial or is there leeway w a large breed dog..

I would stick to the 80/10/10. I supplement with chicken feet which are great for the joints. I also would consider a supplement like Phycox.

Granted we don't have the joint issues you are experiencing but we started our EM Angus on raw at about that age. 80-10-10 is working well for us. Not spot on every day but over a week it all balances out.

Agree with TriCap, balance over time. I've fed mostly raw since 1999 to big dogs/puppies (Rottweilers mostly) so I am pretty relaxed about it. However, with large-giant breed pups I am more careful in the first 1-2 years. Buying whole chickens/ducks/goats and portioning them out, buying more whole/ground commercial raw, and (currently) also feeding about half the meals as kibble with low ca:phos ratios because my pup is an EM and so my first giant breed.

Two Rottweilers ago I had one dx/d with ED at about 10 months. The ortho vet was supportive of raw and recommended glucosamine-chronditin supplements, which seemed to help a lot. Did they REALLY help? I have no clue. But he was on them for life and became an agility champion, and other titles, he had a very active life. They surely did not hurt.

My EM has been fed this way since we got him at 9 1/2 weeks old. He a super healthy guy and has never required a sick visit to the vet in all his five years. It really is an over time thing, so I would sweat the minutia, and I also second the chicken's feet, trachea is also a good option if you can get it.

He eats his share of trachea. So we have have done a ton of research on the most nature things we can give him to aid in this process. But thank u for the reassurance that we r close to do the rite thing.
