7month old CC hip popping!!

Hi I am new to the forum because I can never get a straight answer from my vet. So here goes...
Outlaw is 7 months old and about 2 months ago I noticed a popping sound from one of his hips when he walked. It happens more after he wakes up. It isn't constant.. Just happens once or twice a day for a couple of minutes an then usually stops... I hve gotten answers that his joints are just big since he is a large breed pup and that he will grow into them and from the vet that we shouldnt be worried. He is weighing right around 67-68 lbs... Is this early signs of HD?!? I will be heart broken if it is because we have taken EVERY precaution! Both parents have excellent hips.. Would love some input/advice.. Has this happened to any other parents out there?!?!

Thanks

I would go to another vet and have X-rays of his hips done.
I am sorry to say tha popping sounds from his hips are not normal in the growth and development :(
How is his movement? Does he jump up and run a lot? Have you noticed him "bunny hopping"? What about stairs, how does he do stairs?
Sorry about all the questions. My first CC had some serious issues by 11 months so I understand your worry.
Please go to another vet and have it looked at early!

Ok so he doesn't jump up on furniture bed etc... Only steps he goes down are to get off porch which is only four I them and he moves quite well... he doesn't run down them.. He doesn't run a lot either.. We have tried to keep him from too much activity.. When he wakes up I when I notice it more.. At 7 months will the X-rays show issues since they say to wait until he is older?!? I pick him up in and out of the car also! Very cautious with him and have been since he was a little baby.. Ugh I hope he is ok... I am very worried ...

I have called numerous specialty vets and they all have to have a referral from my vet. In other words my vet doesn't see a problem so I guess the next step is to go spend more money in a different vet and go from there! What a mess!

Have you asked your first vet for a referral or X-rays?
Just because they don't see a problem, you would rather peace of mind and have it done.
That would be my first step, is asking.
Your be should know popping isn't normal...

What Cody said. When Sadie's intestinal problems got old I just told my vet to send a referral over to the specialist I had picked out. No questions asked, she sent the paper work.

Ok so my regular vet said to not worry that she thought the like great.. Needless to say Outlaw is being seen by another Vet this Thursday. If needed they will send him to the specialty hospital in Raleigh NC where we live! Thanks for the help... I will keep you all posted! Say a prayer ;) please

My first EM was diagnosed with HD at 9 months after we noticed bunny hoping when she ran. We were like you, aware of potential hip problems & watched her carefully. However, it didn't matter. We didn't get her from a reputable breeder so shame on us. Not saying we deserved to have had to deal with that but that's what happens when you buy from a BYB with no health testing done on the parents at all. :( She also had the popping noise but it wasn't until much later in life that we started hearing that. I wish we would've done hip replacement surgery when she was a pup & was initially diagnosed but by the time she got older it wasn't an option. We tried a different procedure which gave her some relief but didn't solve the problem.

I whole heartedly agree with getting a 2nd opinion. Popping is not normal in a 7 month old puppy. Keep us posted on what the new vet says.

Glad you were able to get another appt quickly. See what the second vet says and compare it. Will keep my fingers crossed.

Some breeders that get a lot of worriers in puppy owners become a little immune to the something is wrong with my puppy (not that there is or isn't something wrong with yours) but sometimes their first reaction is just relax everything is fine let it ride, which isn't helpful when it is your baby. I say do what you need to, to ensure your puppy is okay and then talk with your breeder if something shows up after the fact.

Both parents having amazing hips doesn't mean the puppy won't get bad hips. It means that both parents have been tested and are clear and they have done what they can to prevent puppies from the likelihood of having bad hips but sometimes things happen and mother nature chooses to show us that we aren't gods. Does it happen often if they are doing hip screenings, if the dogs are passing I would certainly hope not but yes sometimes it can. Will keep my fingers crossed that it is nothing more than some growing pains and he will just need lots of bed rest.

Best of luck. I agree with the others says go to a specialist. Not normal, but then again, my hips are starting to pop when I get up.

So for precaution right now... Should I keep him inside and laying around with no running playing etc? Also he is on large breed puppy Fromm... I am trying to figure what the best amount to feed him... He is at about 5 cups a day now... Would love input...

Good luck and I hope you receive good news. You don't need him on large breed food...All life stages is a better option. You want slow and steady growth for your boy. If you search the forum you will find lots of info on food. You want to look for a food that has the correct calcium and phosphorus ratios.
