5month old puppy woke up with a bad limp

Hello Everyone, looking for opinions or experience.

Rook, my 5 month old bullmastiff puppy, woke up this morning with a really severe limp (no weight on his back left leg). All was fine when he went to bed and now it appears really bad. There is no warmth or swelling I can feel or see. He is big even for a bullmastiff (80 pounds at 5 months) so I am worried about this now that he is growing so fast (3-5 pounds per week) and it may be a joint related issue
or something.

I am going to take him in to the vet today. We also have his sister from the same litter and they play rough, so I am hoping he just tweaked something and it tightened up over night.

Anyone have any experience with something like this in the past? Thank in advance for any advice or guidance.

It could be pano which while painful will resolve itself as he grows up. I'm pretty sure Kryten had it once although it resolved itself before I got him to the vet (he grew 1" in 24h). I don't know if pano can cause non-weight bearing though. The other thing I'd want checked would be the stability of his knee (I've become almost paranoid about joints after Kryten's ED diagnosis).

Thanks for the reply Smokeycat, I was reading about Pano but shared the same thought that it does not usually result in non weight bearing. He went from a limp at about 4am to 3 legged by 6am.

Vet opens at 9am so hopefully will have some more info soon.

We had something similar with our big mutt (Rott/GSD/GP, 190lbs as an adult). We had x-rays done... nothing there. It resolved itself in a day or two. At the time, we didn't know anything about pano, and the vet didn't say anything about altering his diet (i.e. too much calcium?), so we figured he just slept on it funny.

Hope he feels better soon!!

there is another thing that it could be.... I forgot the name of it but it has to do with some sort of blockage in the spinal cord and the receptors not getting signals.... doesnt seem to cause any pain just pretty much paralizes the limb... I will do a lil more research and find out what it is called

It wont be a problem, my puppy once played toomuch and the next day morning he could not walk, I thought he is suffering due to hip dysplasia or something...
But the vet says this is just due to overplay, He just gave him a painkiller.
Next day he is so fine!
