came home from work tues and zuess was limping (right front leg) he was in kennal all day while i was at work. wed. morning was a little better and wed. evening was not limping but still favoring slightly but was normal self romping around and playing no matter how much i tried to keep him calm. thursday morning limping again i have felt for anything out of ordinary i can touch squeeze and move his leg anyway i want and he shows no sign of pain. my question is this normal growing pains or should i take him to the vet to be checked. like i said 5.5 months old and 95 pounds. any advice or help would be appreciated.

could be Pano, common with large breed puppies. If you have him on a puppy food you may want to put him on adult food since it usually has lower protein. otherwise he may have just sprained it...in which case it should get better after a few days, unless he fractured something. I would have the vet look at him if it doesn't get better after a few days.

i have him on benaful original but am slowly changing over to Diamond large breed. i am hoping just a sprain. although there are no joint problems in his bloodlines. i have read a lot on the internet that makes me paranoid.

Keep him on crate rest, let him out for leashed walks only for a while. I know is hard with a pup, but will be better for him in the long run. I would do that for a while see if it subsides, if not go see your vet.

yeah, get rid of the Beneful...it is crap food, full of high fructose corn syrup and corn...better off with the Diamond

It may be Panostesis or shifting lameness, we had a similar problem with Ben, if the limping comes back or even comes on a different limb I would take him to your vet because although pano will eventually cure itself, it can be very painful; and the problem with mastiff types is that they are so often so stoic about pain that its hard to judge how much they are hurting.

limping stopped but i took him to the vet anyway was time for rabies shot. vet checkout was good all bones and joints were great vet said showed a little tenderness in first joint above his paw said it was a strain from romping around. feel much better now. vet also said get off the beneful and go to diomond large breed. thanks for all the replies this forum rocks.

well, does he jump in or out of a truck/vehicle? my casher's has had similar cases, we narrowed it down to him jumping out of the truck box... for he is 200lbs, and that is a lot of pressure and weight coming down ..... good luck.
